The title of this bonus feature to the "Ed Wood" DVD is a little misleading. I thought it would be a humorous account of the horrible special-effects used in his '50s science-fiction films. Instead, it was all Tim Duffield, production designer, going over some of the details of the sets. Not that it was boring, but it wasn't that entertaining, either.
I did find the fact that this film was shot in color, to be interesting. Obviously, then, the color was zapped out for the black-and-white look. Duffield said they took tons of Polaroid's of all the scenes in color and black-and-white to see how the color would transfer, and the only problem they had was with the color red. So, they eliminated that color as much as possible. Red would come out gray, he said.
A lot of detail went into the sets to make them look realistic in Wood's films, such as the flat surfaces he used, and in the period of the 1950s with all the vinyl and linoleum floors. They also had a lot of fun with the artwork in the "fun house" scenes. Duffeld explained a few other inside jokes that he did, like inserting some works of Director Tim Burton's favorite artist (Eduard Munch) into the film.
Overall, this was okay but somewhat bland compared to most of the behind-the-scenes features I have watched.
