Plush & Saucy, But Long & Episodic Silent Comedy
richardchatten12 May 2019
A vehicle for the comedic talents of moon-faced Reinhold Schünzel, who was even funnier as the effete, monocled, knuckle-clicking Nazi in Lang's 'Hangmen Also Die!' (1943).

After inheriting 'Heaven on Earth', the sinful establishment after which the film is named, Schünzel's adventures - set against the plush backdrop of Oscar Werndorff's elegant sets - get more and more eccentric and ribald, and Schünzel makes a surprisingly convincing woman when required to drag up; although his enormous hands prove rather a giveaway!
