Gillian Anderson Almost Didn’t Play Agent Scully
The X-Files star appeared as a guest on Wednesday’s episode of Today. She spoke with Savannah Guthrie about the possibility of being in the proposed series.
“It’s so funny because for most of my life, since I have finished The X-Files, every interview I do, people have asked and the answer has always been, ‘Nope, not going to happen, not going to happen,’” Gillian, 55, told Savannah. “Now, Ryan Coogler, who is the director of Black Panther — brilliant, brilliant director — has approached Chris Carter to say that he wants to do a take on it and...

Anderson played FBI Special Agent Dana Scully on The X-Files from 1992 to 2002.

Chicago – The truth is out there for David Duchovny, and he is definitely a seeker. The actor, best known for the TV series “The X Files” and “Californication,” has a new film in theaters opening February 14th, in which he portrays a father figure to the title character in “Adam the First.”
Duchovny is James, who is raising Adam (Oakes Fegley). When the boy is old enough to understand, James tells him he’s not his biological father. As Adam gets to be a teenager, his education is mostly about survival, as James keeps him off the grid in trailer in the woods. When the past catches up with them, Adam has to make his escape, but not before learning that three men named Jacob could possibly be his real father. The young teen must strike out on his own to find his roots, encountering the possibilities along the journey.

It’s been five years since “The X-Files” wrapped up its two revival seasons, with a planned animated series scrapped earlier this year. So what’s next from the world of “The X-Files”?
According to a new report from Bloomberg this week, Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) is still attached to produce a brand new version of “The X-Files,” which franchise creator Chris Carter had first teased earlier this year. The site reports, “Disney is developing a new version of The X-Files that would be produced by Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther and Creed.”
Carter had previously teased the new series would feature “a diverse cast.”
Stay tuned for more as we learn it.
“The X-Files” originally ran for nine seasons from September 1993 to May 2002, with tenth and eleventh seasons arriving in 2016 and 2018. In total, 218 episodes were made.

Few TV shows have had the seismic impact of The X-Files – with its swirling mysteries, long-running conspiracies, and shocking monster-of-the-week episodes. Factor in the legendary roles of Mulder and Scully (the incredible David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) and you have the recipe for a multiple-decade-spanning phenomenon, that began on the small screen, moved to the big one (twice), and was revived for two additional series just when fans thought it was all over. Packed with alien encounters, supernatural shenanigans, and moments of very human horror, the show – spawned by Chris Carter – brought audiences into a world where you never quite knew what the next episode would bring.
30 years later, the impact of The X-Files hasn’t been diluted – and throughout its reign on big screens and small, Empire spoke to several of its key voices. Take a rifle through the X-Files Interview Archive…

Season 2 of last summer’s hit breakout series “The Bear” is set to premiere on Hulu on Thursday, June 22. After a tumultuous return to his family’s hole-in-the-wall Chicago restaurant, chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) and his staff transform the greasy sandwich joint into a first-class dining experience after he discovers the slush fund his brother left behind. Despite having the extra money to make his dreams a reality, the future proves to be both a personal and professional challenge for Carmy and the crew.
Watch the trailer for Season 2 of “The Bear”:
Beginning on June 14, the new series continuation of the beloved film “The Full Monty” arrives on Hulu. It’s 25 years later and the men and women of Sheffield, England, are in reboot mode, navigating life and family. The original 1997 movie focused on a group of down-on-their-luck, blue-collar men who put on a strip show to make ends meet.

Do redheads have more fun? Yes, if you consider solving supernatural crimes with your possible soulmate "fun" — and if you're at all a fan of "The X-Files," you certainly do.
Gillian Anderson's Dana Scully was one half of one of the most talked-about procedurals this side of "Law & Order." Her will-they-won't-they relationship with Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) across 11 seasons — and two movies! — is arguably one of the series' biggest talking points, even today.
Plot aside, there has always been a considerable amount of love for Scully's fiery red hair. Anderson, notably, is not a natural redhead; she's one of many actresses who've had their hair dyed for a particular role. And while the general attitude toward Scully's look has always been pretty positive (if not overly protective), it was one of very few qualms that Anderson herself had with the character.

Nearly 30 years after its debut, The X-Files and its star David Duchnovy maintain a diehard fan base. But once upon a time, Duchovny wasn’t quite sold that the show would be a success.
On Wednesday’s episode of the Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast, the actor admitted that he once considered turning down the sci-fi drama’s pilot. “I had gotten… a couple of scenes in this movie of the week, and it was a director who I was friendly with, and I was going to have to…pull out of that part to do The X-Files pilot,” the actor told Lowe. “I said to my agents, ‘I don’t want to do that. You know, she’s a friend, and I don’t want to pull out.’”

November can be a slow month for streaming services. Amazon, however, is entering into 2020’s penultimate month with some steam.
Amazon is really beefing up its TV library in November 2020. Both Community (which arrives on Nov. 8) and Scrubs (Nov. 14) will be added to Amazon Prime this month and in the process complete the streaming trifecta: Netflix, Amazon, Hulu. That’s pretty impressive stuff for both shows. And then on the film side of things, November 1 sees the arrival of The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Twilight, and the Underworld franchise. Somebody didn’t tell Amazon Spooky Season was over and bless them for it.
As for the originals, Alex Rider is the most intriguing TV series here. That is based on the British spy novel series and premieres on Nov. 13 on IMDb TV (which is available to all Prime subscribers). That will be followed by Steve McQueen’s Small Axe series on Nov.

It has been announced that Fox has given the green light for an eleventh season of The X-Files after its tenth season premiered last year. This was fourteen years after the ninth season ended back in May 2002 and seven years after the film The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Even though season ten met with a mixed reception from critics, the return of such an iconic show drew in a staggering sixteen million viewers. Fox, buoyed by the popularity, commissioned an extra four episodes with season ten taking the episode count up to ten. Clearly they are pretty confident they have another smash hit series on their hands when the show is due to air later on this year.
In a statement from David Madden, President of Fox Broadcasting Company, he stated “Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows.

A full 23 years after making its debut, Chris Carter’s cultural phenomenon The X-Files returned to Fox this year with a limited six-episode series, reuniting David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson for the first time since 2008’s The X-Files: I Want To Believe feature film. In late May, with Anderson and Duchovny on opposite sides of the country—she off-Broadway in a revival of A Streetcar Named Desire, which wrapped earlier this month; he in Los Angeles having wrapped a…...

Gillian Anderson knows a thing our two about aliens thanks to her many years playing Special Agent Dana Scully on The X-Files, but she wasn't familiar with the now-classic game "F—k, Marry, Kill." That is until E! News took to the Vancouver set. Anderson quickly became an expert. "I don't know this game, but I'll play this. Ok, famous aliens. So which one I'd f--k and which one I'd kill, basically?" See? Gillian Anderson: Emmy winner and F—k, Marry, Kill expert. E! News was on set with as she returned to the role of Dana Scully, eight years after last playing the character in The X-Files: I Want to Believe and 13 years after the show signed off of Fox. It's been eight long years since we last saw Mulder and Scully in action, fighting the government in The X-Files: I Want to Believe. In the season 10 premiere of The X-Files revival, the paranormal-hunting duo returned to investigate a new conspiracy, one that draws them out of retirement and back into Mulder's old FBI office. As you might expect, a lot has changed since the end of the series in 2008, and not all of it for the better. Here's everything we liked and disliked about The X-Files season 10 premiere.

After feuding badly on the set of the original X-Files, it's a wonder David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are still speaking at all. But lo and behold, they're back for six brand-new episodes of the Fox mega-hit, with attendant awkward promotional appearances on late-night talk shows. So just how bad did things get on the set back in the day? If this newly-published Variety piece from the revival's Vancouver set is any indication, the answer is: very, very bad. "The crucible of doing that show made monsters out of both of us,” said Duchovny. Monsters. Wowza. Luckily the two have patched up their relationship in the years since, beginning with 2008's ill-fated big-screen outing The X-Files: I Want to Believe. “Once we got to step back, it was like, ‘Oh, wow, we really like each other. I didn’t know that was going to happen,'" Duchovny said later, before...

Chris Carter confirms that he penned a script for a third The X-Files movie. So what happened?
The X-Files returns to screens next week, with a new six-part 'event' series reuniting David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Yet the show's creator, Chris Carter, has now revealed that a third The X-Files movie has been written. It doesn't sound like it's going anywhere fast, though.
Carter penned the script before he was approached by Fox about the new TV series. And as he told The Hollywood Reporter, "I actually wrote a third movie, just because I was interested in the idea of where that might go".
At one stage, he considered using the new film script as the foundation of the new TV run. "I let my wife read the third movie, and she said 'I think not for television'", he said.

The new "X-Files" mini-season is almost here -- and with anticipation building, Fox has released a 21-minute sneak peek at the forthcoming episodes that covers Mulder and Scully's reunion, new cast members, creepy crawlies and big twists on the old mythology. Too busy to watch the whole thing? Here are 9 things we learned from the new clip. 1. The first and last episodes are "mythology" episodes, while the rest are standalone (a.k.a. "Monster of the Week") episodes. "I knew that there was a big interest from the fans to see more monster stuff," says Anderson. "But also, we have a big fandom based around the mythology." 2. One of the standalone episodes will be in more of a comedic vein than the others. "There's gonna be standalones, and of those standalones there's gonna be one that's funnier than the others," says Duchovny. 3. Mulder and Scully will be broken up at the beginning of the series.

When The X-Files concluded in 2002, the plan was always to continue the show's stories via theatrical movies. But after the 2008 film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, "it didn't seem that Fox was interested in doing another movie," The X-Files star David Duchovny (Mulder) allows. "I had figured, unless they turned around on that — which I really think they should have — that we were pretty much dead. And that was Ok, because life goes on." Duchovny has kept busy, completing his run on the Showtime hit, Californication, and starring in NBC's

Your time in the broken-up couple spotlight is over, Kermit and Miss Piggy, now it's The X-Files Mulder and Scully's turn. Yes E! It's been seven years since we saw David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as the beloved FBI agents/paranormal investigators and that was in The X-Files: I Want To Believe, a movie not everybody loved. Their last scene together on screen? Rowing off into the sunset, quite literally. A lot can happen in seven years and a lot can happen in the six episodes Fox is giving viewers this winter....

It was inevitable that the Fox executive session at the Television Critics Association summer tour would yield greater detail about the reboot of The X-Files that is currently in production. The event series is one of the most highly anticipated projects on the Fox Television Group slate, and fans have been poring over every snippet of preview footage already released.
Those attending the session were apparently treated to a whole scene from the first of the new episodes, with Chairman and CEO Dana Walden giving an explanatory introduction.
“You’re seeing a scene from our first episode back. As you may recall, the mix of episodes we did was mythology episodes, episodes that dug deeper into the conspiracy of The X Files, and then there were great standalone episodes. That’s still the mix we’ll be exploring in this run.”

For nine years, from 1993 through 2002, Friday was the night to stay home or at the least to make sure your favorite television recorder was programmed correctly.
I’m talking about The X-Files, created by Chris Carter and which starred then relatively unknown actors David Duchovny as FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder, an Oxford-trained behavioral psychologist, and Gillian Anderson as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully, an M.D. specializing in forensic medicine. Together they investigated the so-called “X-Files” of the FBI: cases that involved crimes on the margins of “normal,” paranormal activities, and UFO goings-on.
It became the Fox (no pun intended) network’s highest rated show and won numerous awards over its original lifetimes, including 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes, and a Peabody Award over its run; it also received nominations and wins from the Directors Guild, the Writers Guild the Screen Actors Guild, the Television Critics Association, and the Saturn Awards.

Admit it, millennials: When the news broke Tuesday that FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully would be returning to the Fox network for a six-episode reboot of "The X-Files," many of you said, "Who are Mulder and Scully?" After all, the show has been off the air for 13 years. Since then, Gillian Anderson (Scully) moved to England and did period dramas, while David Duchovny (Mulder) became that creepy old lech on Showtime's "Californication," and "X-Files" creator Chris Carter went Mia and was apparently abducted by aliens.
Still, even if "The X-Files," its stars, and its creator haven't been pinging the cultural radar much in recent years, the return of the show with its original cast and showrunner on board is a huge deal. Much of what we now take for granted in pop culture -- especially on TV and online -- owes a tremendous debt to the 1993-2002 sci-fi drama series.

Just yesterday, news arrived that Fox was close to issuing a green-light for a revival of classic sci-fi series The X-Files, and now it’s official: the truth is still out there, and Mulder and Scully are making their way back to television to find it.
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are both signed on to reprise their respective roles of FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, characters they’ve been playing on-and-off since 1993 over the course of nine seasons and two films, in a six-part limited series. Series creator and executive producer Chris Carter is also returning in those same capacities, with production on the revival being eyed for this summer. No premiere date has been announced.
It’s expected that each episode will find Mulder and Scully investigating a different case. Carter recently stated:
