TNA Destination X 2005
wrestlingsitewebmaster26 November 2005
The honeymoon is over for TNA head booker Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes who received very good praise in his early booking years, has shown that he has learned nothing during his years in Jim Crockett Promotions. He is using the same technique week in week out and this is boring the arse out of the fans.

The main event featured the Triple H equivalent of TNA, Jeff Jarrett against Diamond Dallas Page. Although the result wasn't in doubt, it did prove to be a solid performance. Jarrett won this match and still retained the NWA belt as usual, but he did it with the help from his guitar, the usual ref bumps and Monty Brown's heel turn.

Else where on the show Brown defeated Trytan in a poor match. The thing is though Brown pinned a masked man (Dennis Knight) to win the contest. Why? I haven't got a clue. The Ultimate X match was brilliant, and this consisted of AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Elix Skipper and Ron Killings. Next The Outlaw (Kip James) defeated Kevin Nash in a terrible first blood match, Dustin Rhodes pinned Raven (obviously) in a bullrope match. Abyss defeated Jeff Hardy in a very good falls count anywhere match. It was just shame that the match went completely to hell at the end, and watch out for Hardy's temper tantrum. Abyss was professional enough though before he began tossing furniture around backstage. And finally The Desciples of Destruction defeated Phi Delta Slam in a lousy match.

If you thought Destination X was overkill, check out Lockdown, every match was set to be a steel cage. Something tells me that Rhodes booking days for TNA are outnumbered.

Not A Bad PPV

As is the case with most wrestling events the 2005 TNA Destination X has it's ups and downs. (All ratings out of 5 stars) 1st match: America's Most Wanted and 3 Live Kru vs Team. **- standard quality no real high spots 2nd Match: Chris Sabin vs Chase Stevens **- same as above 3rd Match: Dustin Rhodes (Goldust) vs Raven **.5- The Rhodes are known for the bullrope match and it's well deserved. Rhodes appeared to carry Raven for a lot of it.

4th Match: Monty Brown vs. Trytan *.5- Brown carried Trytan to create a watchable match. Trytan was really hyped for the match, but he disappointed. He showed up twice more on Impact and got fired. That speaks to his performance.

5th Match: Jeff Hardy vs. Abyss ****- Hardy does a lot of high risk original moves in the match, they fight in the crowd and in the back and fight with chairs and ladders. Abyss doesn't do much to impress but he takes a beating.

6th Match: First Blood: Kevin Nash vs. Kip James (Billy Gunn) **- standard quality match.

7th Match: Ultimate X Championship between AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Ron Killings and Elix Skipper *****- This was an amazing match and one of the best matches of the year regardless of company. It starts as a tag team match wear the wrestler who is pinned is out which creates a triple threat and then an Ultimate X match for the final two. Lots of original moves, a lot of adrenaline and an overall amazing match.

8th Match: NWA World Heavyweight Title Match Jeff Jarrett vs DDP ***- pretty good match, the crowd got into it, a lot of interference.

You can usually find this DVD pretty cheap used. It's definitely worth it for the Ultimate X match alone.
