One of the best Punjabi movie
anishgup17 February 2013
'Des Hoya Pardes' is the original name of this movie. This movie tells the youth story of Punjab around 1984. This story might be true as many Sikhs fled to other counties for asylum and could not come back to their country. All the lead characters seems natural and realistic specially Juhi Chawla. The best part of the movie was its ending which might bring tears to one's eye. All the shooting locations justify the script. It is a well woven movie with humor and emotions. Gurdas Mann adds star to the movie by his songs and acting. Well balanced movie but could be a perfect one if not stretched in couple of scenes.

This movie could be any responsible individual story from a political disturbed region.

A must watch who might have gone harsh conditions while fighting with the nation system.

Reality Base sad movie with laughter, good family bonding & with romantic part too
jaypravinchandra3 June 2013
Just watched this Movie.. CD Part 1--> I was very happy, been laughing & clapping by myself. :) CD Part 2--> So sad, touching, Heart Cried, Really Really Regrettable & Unfortunate.. :(

Movie based on reality happened in India during 1985. You can compare with movie Sadda Haq (2013).

I love the Title song 'Des Hoyya Pardes' sung by Jagjit Singh & Gurdas Maan.

& the lines from first song of the movie:

Kede Pind Wichho Aayi Ye.. Kede Pind Wichho Aayi Ye, Ni Tere Mure Ki Khangiye.. Tu Ta Khang Di Davayi Ye…. Tu Ta Khang Di Davayi Ye, Tere Utto Var Dayiye Jaana Sastiya… Muaj Mastiaan

Harsh and realistic

Warning: Spoilers
A change from the Harbhajan Mann foreigners are bad type niche films, Gurdas Mann outdoes him in singing and acting, and to see Juhi Chawla in this film is a fantastic surprise. This film is not a feel good film but a film of true events that would have happened in those bleak years - I'm glad to see Punjab has progressed so much since those years and that finally they have a government with a good mind and strong head. The scary policeman is so realistic and I didn't question once whether he was a harsh stereotypical portrayal, because I knew that this was the police force - and still is in most cases - existing today. The moral of the film is to learn from past events that shouldn't have taken place and not to repeat them. Also that the Punjab Police should all be re-educated and bad apples thrown out! I have faith in Manmohan Singh!

Eh Ta Mera Punjab Nahin E!(This is not my Punjab)

Warning: Spoilers
I was very keenly awaiting this movie to release on DVD.and now after watching movie all i can say that wait was worth.I'm so sick and tired of Bollywood movies that thanks god every year one noteworthy Punjabi movie comes along to save me. Gurdas Mann is name associated with high quality music but if you see he has a 100% record of making meaningful yet entertaining movies. His acting has improved over the years and all he got against him is his ever growing age! Juhi Chawla acted well but kind of looks old and heavy duty makeup makes it even more prominent. Divya Dutta would win hearts with her cheerful laughter and she is damn good actress. Parmeet Sethi was in form this time too as he always plays his characters with ease. Story of movie is good although Manoj Punj can improve his direction a lot if he wishes to.camera work was shoddy in some scenes otherwise it was a job well done. first half of movie routine but movie gains momentum on intermission and from there on till end it just accelerates.second half is really well written. even after you have watched the movie you gonna carry it in your mind after some time.it leaves a lot of impact on mind and there are some scenes which might wet your eyes if you r a Punjabi. Spoiler alert!!!!!!!!! although movie satisfied me with its well acting actors and a very melodies yet meaningful music but its ending left me with a sour throat. end of movie is very tragic and i was hoping it could have been well done if movie would have ended on a high note.but then director might know better why a tragic end? i recommend this movie to those people who hate POLICE love their families and motherland!!!!!

This movie was Excellent

This movie was good it focused around the times when Indra Gandhi was assassinated and the riots and discrimination that took place between Hindus and Sikhs.

I just have a few negative things to say about it tho first of all they needed to get there facts straight. I wont name what because I want to see if you guys can find them. But here is a obvious one. The story takes place in 1986 and when Gurdas Mann comes to USA seeking Political freedom they have brand new houses probably made 2-3 years back, they have new cars probably between the years 2003-2005.

But besides that it is a good movie. I recommend seeing Hawyen it is also based around those times. But i warn you Hawyen is sort of gory
