In the wake of Sunday’s fall finale of The Walking Dead, the Nielsens delivered to the AMC drama news that was as almost bad as that which Carl shared with Rick, Michonne and viewers in the episode’s last seconds: According to our sister site Variety, “How It’s Gotta Be” was the series’ lowest-rated midseason finale since Season 2 back in 2011.
The plus-sized installment — in which Negan and the Saviors struck back against the AHK (Alexandria/Hilltop/Kingdom) uprising — averaged a 3.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 7.9 million viewers.

The following contains spoilers from the fall finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead pulled a bite-and-switch during Season 8’s fall finale, when after getting people thinking that Lucille might have a date with someone else’s cranium, no heroes wound up stepping up to the bat.
Alas, the episode’s final moments revealed that there would be a casualty nonetheless — because Carl had been bitten by a walker in the course of transporting Siddiq.

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Sunday’s fall finale of The Walking Dead.
If we hadn’t already known it was bad news for The Walking Dead’s Team Ahk when Rick discovered last week that the Saviors had dispatched the walkers that had turned the Sanctuary into a prison, we sure as hell knew it when, in Sunday’s fall finale, Negan rolled up to the gates of Alexandria with a big announcement: Everyone was to line up outside their homes, and whoever’s apology for the uprising was the lamest would be biting the dust along with Rick.

In a sneak peek for Sunday’s fall finale of The Walking Dead (9/8c, AMC), Negan announces to Alexandria, “You lose. It’s over.” And since last week the Saviors escaped from the stronghold that had become their prison, it certainly seems like the villain isn’t counting his chickens before Rick’s goose is actually cooked.
But will Lucille really get to strike out not only Alexandria’s fearless leader but also, as promised, another member of the community? Perhaps there are clues in the photos released by the network in advance of “How It’s Gotta Be.” Among...

In a statement issued Wednesday, the Writers Guild of America, West blasted plans by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai too undo pro-net neutrality rules intended to ensure that internet content is treated equally by service providers. Motel Hell is an odd film. It’s packaged as a horror-comedy hybrid, but in reality, it takes itself far more seriously than most movies within the same category. Though the film does have an oddball quality, it steers clear of satire, and never reduces itself to slapstick. Motel Hell was produced during a time where all studio horror output was expected to be dead-teen slasher flicks, and while the film has a slasher quality to it, it has a lot more going on for it than that. Another thing Motel Hell is good for, is forcing you to create a lot of the violence in your own mind, as much of the gorier death scenes happen off-screen in a clever sort of way. Much like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, you walk away from Motel Hell feeling like you just watched a gorier film than you actually did. What...

It's finally happened. The purported whiz-kid of NBC, Ben Silverman, has left the network to return to his producer roots alongside Barry Diller's Iac to start up a new production company they promise will "unite producers, creators, advertisers and distributors under one roof". Silverman was also the executive producer of The Office, Ugly Betty, The Tudors, and The Biggest Loser through his previous production company, Reveille. Since his arrival at NBC, however, the success of the fourth-place network hasn't been too bright. These scripted and non-scripted series have failed under his command: American Gladiators, America's Toughest Jobs, The Baby Borrowers, Bionic Woman, Celebrity Circus, Chopping Block, Crusoe, Fear Itself, Journeyman, Kath & Kim, Kings, Knight Rider, Life, Lipstick Jungle, Momma's Boys, My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad, My Own Worst Enemy, Quarterlife, and The Singing Bee have come and gone too quickly.

I know what you’re thinking: “A remake of ‘Commando?’ Bull! Why would anyone remake a brainless action movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger from 1985?” Um, why would they remake “A Nightmare on Elm Street” or “Red Dawn” from 1984, or “Conan” from 1982? The real question isn’t why they’re remaking “Commando”, it’s why wouldn’t they remake “Commando”? At this point, one movie from the ’80s is as good as another, so trying to make sense of why Hollywood chooses to remake one movie and not others is kind of pointless. Having said that, there are rumors that a remake of “Commando” is on the horizon. The news comes from Joblo.com, who wouldn’t necessarily say they’ve confirmed the remake rumors, but that they do know someone who has “heard whispers” of said remake ambitions. Why just whispers? Probably because if you went around telling people out loud...

Oh, Hollywood. You and your obsession with remaking movies that are barely 20 years old. It’s like watching a middle-aged Hollywood actor who used to be the stud of his era, trying vainly to recapture his youth by dumping his middle-aged wife and dating the 19-year old Midwestern girl who just got off the bust. Sooner or later you know he’s gonna dump her when he finally accepts his fate as an old bugger, but until then, he’s gonna screw every 19-year old he can get his hands on. Wait, where was I? Oh right. The latest two casualties of Hollywood’s mid-life crisis are “Fright Night” and “Angel Heart”. THR says that Dreamworks will be producing a remake of Tom Holland’s horror-comedy “Fright Night”, which had a teenager (played by Chris Sarandon) discovering that vampires have moved into the house next door to his. Much hilarity,...

It's been a long time since Dark Castle produced a remake of an old William Castle film, but they've finally gotten around to it again. Patrick Lussier, who helmed the excellent "My Bloody Valentine 3D" remake, will now direct a redo of 1965's Joan Crawford film "I Saw What You Did and I Know Who You Are!" Todd Farmer, who wrote the "Valentine" redo, is also writing this one. The screenplay for the original film was by William P. McGivern was based upon the 1964 novel "Out of the Dark" by Ursula Curtiss. William Castle directed it. The concept was quite good: When two mischievous teens randomly dial telephone numbers and tell whomever answers, "I saw what you did, and I know who you are," they of course wind up accidentally calling a man who has recently murdered his wife.

To be perfectly frank with you, I’m less surprised by the fact that an American production company wants to remake Ahn Byung-ki’s “Phone” as I am that it’s taken this long, with the Asian horror move remake trend seemingly on the verge of mercifully dying out. Screen Daily reports that the remake will be coming courtesy of L.A.-based Imprint Entertainment (never heard of them, though they seem to claim some sort of involvement in the “Twilight” franchise) and Korea’s Microvision, who will be shooting the film in Seoul, South Korea where it the story will be set with original director Ahn Byung-ki back behind the camera. Here’s the plot of the original via IMDb.com: Soon after Ji-won gets a new cell phone, her friend’s young daughter, Yeong-ju, puts it to her ear and immediately begins screaming in terror. When other strange...

Back in mid-March, NBC premiered a reality show, The Chopping Block, centered around a group of eight chef wannabes who tried to open and run successful restaurants. The concept hardly sounded original since Fox has been running a similar show called Hell's Kitchen for several seasons.
To little surprise, the series tripped out of the starting gate and attracted just 3.77 million viewers with a 1.4/4 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. Subsequent episodes dropped even further and the third installment garnered an embarrassing 2.58 million viewers and a 0.9/2 in the demo.
NBC pulled Chopping Block after three episodes and replaced it with Law & Order: Criminal Intent reruns. In a strange move, the peacock network has now decided to bring Chopping Block back to television for five episodes. They'll be airing on Friday nights beginning June 19th.
The network is picking up where they left off, with episode four. The strange thing is that,...

A pair of series premieres Thursday night gave NBC hope for an eleventh-hour comeback this season.
The debut of the network's new cop drama "Southland" topped the premiere of CBS' mystery-thriller "Harper's Island," while Amy Poehler's comedy "Parks & Recreation" opened to a solid number.
"Southland" (9.9 million viewers, 3.2 adults 18-49 rating), from "ER" producer John Wells, had the best opening of the night, winning the 10 p.m. hour and building slightly on its "30 Rock" lead-in (6.7 million, 3.1).
"Clearly it's a marathon and not a sprint, but we're really invested in these shows, and they are really super-high quality, and last night gives us some space and belief that they'll continue to perform," NBC co-chairman Ben Silverman said.
Silverman was particularly impressed with "Southland" growing during its hour, and rightly so: It's the first time a drama at 10 p.m. has climbed during its series premiere telecast since 2005, when NBC debuted "Medium.

NBC has yanked "Chopping Block" from its schedule after only three airings. The reality series, which starred chef and restauranteur Marco Pierre White, drew under 2.6 million viewers in its latest airing on Wednesday (March 25) night. The show's 0.9 rating in the key 18-49 demo ranked a dismal fifth for the hour. As of now, NBC has filled the show's 8 p.m. Wednesday hour with "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" repeats for the next two weeks at least. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC plans to run off the remaining episodes at some point, but given the network's stuffed summer...

Spring is here and NBC can learn something from baseball. When you've been in last place for as many seasons as NBC has, you need to learn something, too. As Nikki Finke reported recently, the Peacock Network is even getting its tail feathers kicked by Univision. It's time for spring training. NBC's problem is getting new shows to stick. Rookie entries like Kings and Chopping Block delivered more dismal numbers. The NBC lineup contains a lot of veteran players who are looking old in the tooth or former all stars like ER that are retiring. NBC can't a get a hit and remains stuck in the basement. Now think about how baseball deals with its roster of talent. They don't just take a promising kid out of high school, throw millions of dollars at him and immediately toss him into the lineup...

Wednesday's ratings recap:
8 pm/Et
Fox's Lie to Me led the pack with an audience of 10.03 million total viewers, down 10 percent from its week-ago time-period premiere. CBS' sitcoms combined for second, though both Old Christine (7.37 mil, down 260K) and Gary (7.57 mil, down 140K) dipped a bit.
Placing third was ABC's Scrubs (5.8 mil) and lead-out Better Off Ted (which premiered to 5.64 mil). Top Model (3.6 mil) tumbled 19 percent yet still bested NBC's rotting Chopping Block (3.46 mil).
9 pm
American Idol's results show delivered 23 million viewers, slipping 7 percent week-to-week. Criminal Minds followed with 13.5 mil, down a half mil. Lost's numbers weren't terribly groovy, dropping 14 percent to an all-time low of 9.08 mil. (Next week, Sawyer & Co. face an even tougher hurdle: Idol's Obama-cized, two-hour performance show!) Life also took a plunge, to 4.22 mil.

CSI: NY won the hour with 12.7 million viewers (down 800K), followed by Law & Order (7.07 mil, down 530K). Life on Mars showed some life,...

NBC took a double punch in the ratings last week as two of its new shows opened to modest numbers.
The debuts of Sunday night drama "Kings" and Wednesday cooking competition "Chopping Block" underline how a fourth-place position makes its difficult to bring an audience to a new show. With the network turning its 10 p.m. hour over to Jay Leno's talk show next fall, the premieres could hint as to how new programs might be received.
Of course, the issue also could be the shows themselves. Critics hacked apart "Chopping Block" (3.8 million viewers, 1.4 adults 18-49 rating and 4 share). Meanwhile, the alternative universe setting of "Kings" (6.1 million, 1.6/4) has made the concept a tricky pitch on a night when the network has struggled to gain momentum.
NBC's week was also highlighted by the return of several original cast members to Thursday's "ER" (10.9 million, 4.0/11), bumping the ratings to the show's highest in two years,...

Wednesday TV's Big Winner, Besides the Guys Hawking "Anoopdog Millionaire" T-Shirts: Change! American Idol switched up its rules; Fox fiddled with time slots; everybody, except, Jorge Nuñez and Jasmine Murray, won. Compared to last week, Idol, airing an hour later at 9 p.m., was up almost 2 million viewers (24.9 million, per preliminary Nielsen data); Lie to Me, airing an hour earlier at 8 p.m., was up about 1 million (11.1 million). Fringe Benefit: Airing opposite Lie to Me, instead of Idol, America's Next Top Model (4.5 million) was up 15 percent from its season premiere. Etc.: Criminal Minds (14.1 million) was the most-watched scripted show; the new NBC reality series Chopping Block...

With many restaurant-themed reality series gaining momentum on television, NBC is looking forward to air one of its own piece, "The Chopping Block". The show put renown chef Marco Pierre White as the host, judge and role figure, but what exactly and how is it different from the rest are explained through the promo as well as clips.
The promo explains why Chef Marco is notorious, how the game will be played and what prize awaits for the winner. The three clips that are compiled in a player meanwhile, give a look on the teams, the first challenge they meet, the couples crashing in the kitchen, and Marco judging on the dishes.
To be premiered on March 11, the show sees cooks given a grilling over the course of the series. The teams, which are made up of couples, will be tested in challenges that vary from having less than a...

Stuart Gordon, creator of the “Re-Animator” franchise, recently tried to get the latest installment of his horror series made, but ran up against political correctness. Or as Gordon tells it, people loves George W. Bush so much, they can’t stand a movie mocking him. (Obviously Gordon believes this, as he’s kind of loopy in the head.) Apparently with Obama in office, the mega love for Dubya is gone, and now it’s time for … “Re-Animator” the Reboot! (Just go along with it.) Says Styd: ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned producer Ray Haboush is developing a remake of Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator. Haboush operates Automatic Media and is the owner of Halcyon International Pictures. He’ll be shepherding the project with Brian Yuzna, producer of the original ‘85 and director of Bride of Re-Animator and Beyond Re-Animator. So instead of a sequel, they’re going with a reboot of the original.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's marriage is doing just fine, thankyouverymuch. While a morning report alleged that the duo of more than four years were in the early stages of premeditating a public—not to mention rather ironic—Valentine's Day split, Lopez's rep maintains that everything is just peachy in J. Lo land. "There is no merit to the article," Lopez's publicist Leslie Sloane told E! News of the New York Daily News report. While rumors of marital discord are nothing new for the couple, speculation of an impending split was ramped up earlier this month when Lopez turned up at the Los Angeles premiere of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button without her wedding ring....

NBC is putting some Olympic-style competition back in primetime with a new dance series from the producers of "American Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance."
The reality program will feature professional dancers from eight countries exhibiting different performance styles. "Lord of the Dance" Michael Flatley will host, and Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller will executive produce.
"We've always wanted to be in the dance business, but the question was how to be unique and different," said Craig Plestis, NBC's executive vp alternative programming, development and specials. "Our show makes every other dance show seem like amateur hour. We got the best of the best. Americans will be blown away when they see what real professionals can do."
Given the success of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and Fox's "Dance," Lythgoe admits he was initially skeptical about launching another dance show. Once Fuller explained the Olympics hook, however, he was sold.
