Showtime has tapped Tom Fontana, creator of “Homicide: Life on the Street” and “Oz” to serve as showrunner for its upcoming drama starring Kevin Bacon, “City on a Hill.”
The Boston-set drama is based on an original idea by Ben Affleck, who will executive produce the drama with his buddy and fellow New England-er Matt Damon.
The series is set in early 1990s Boston, rife with violent criminals emboldened by local law enforcement agencies in which corruption and racism was the norm. In this fictional account, assistant district attorney Decourcy Ward (Aldis Hodge) arrives from Brooklyn and forms an unlikely alliance with a corrupt yet venerated FBI veteran, Jackie Rohr (Bacon). Together, they take on a family of armored car robbers from Charlestown in a case that grows to involve, and ultimately subvert, the entire criminal justice system of Boston.

Easily the most anticipated new show of the season is Gotham, and if you weren’t able to attend the premiere party, here’s the next best thing.
It was clearly quite the party, and even if you aren’t among the hopefuls looking for this to become your next favorite show, it’s a series that absolutely has to be watched… for a while at least. Just based on the cast and crew, and any connection to Batman, you have to check out what they do with this thing. And, I have to say, Donal Logue. The End.
And again, even if you aren’t already sold, there’s something interesting about the idea of expanding on the early years, beyond just the flashback that sets Bruce Wayne in motion.
Well, you may as well check out what went on, and get all the more excited for next week’s premiere of the show.

The works of William Shakespeare are coming to TV, courtesy of Johnny Depp and "Copper" and "Homicide" producer Tom Fontana.
Depp's production company, Infinitum Nihil, and Fontana are working with Swedish company Yellow Bird Productions (which is behind the original adaptations of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and its sequels) on the project, Deadline reports. Writer Randall Fontana (no relation to Tom) will pen the script.
It's not clear how the series will be structured, or how it will use the source material. Deadline describes the project this way: "a modern take on the plays of The Bard, building on the existing characters and plots from several of his most notable plays."
That could mean ... almost anything, really. Adaptations of the plays in a contemporary setting? Shakespeare characters transported to the present day? Romeo and Hamlet teaming up to fight crime? It's apparently all on the table.

That's right, Boston folk, head on over to Emerson College on Tuesday night, March 13th at 7:00 Pm for an opportunity to see "Holliston" before it airs. Best of all? This event is open to the public, and seating is first-come/first-served. Doors open at 6:30 pm in the Bright Family Screening Room at the Paramount Center on the Emerson College campus.

It seems like just yesterday, the horror community as a whole were waiting with baited breath to catch their first glimpse at AMC’s live action recreation of what has since become one of the most popular comic books on the face of the planet. Halloween 2010 would unleash The Walking Dead upon us all. A chronicle of the zombie apocalypse, spread out over a series of episodes, rather than in and out in ninety minutes.
It came, it went, and the results were good. Anchor Bay released the series on DVD and Blu Ray, what seemed like pretty quickly after the show completed it’s first season. Now, it seems they’re re-releasing season one, in a special edition Blu Ray and DVD set. They’re even going as far as to release special collector’s tin, in Blu Ray only of course. Below you will find the details of said release,...

Given the overwhelmingly positive, record-breaking reception to the first few episodes of "The Walking Dead" television series, it comes as no surprise that AMC has given the go-ahead for a second season — but now it's official.
The network gave audiences the good news today, just a week removed from the series' wildly successful premiere. According to the announcement, the post-apocalyptic saga based on Robert Kirkman's long-running comic book will receive another 13 episodes for its second season.

It's no surprise to me that one of the best shows on TV right now would get renwed for a second season. It was only a matter of time before it happened. I'm just happy that we have official confirmation of it. AMC will air 13-episodes for it's second season.
The Walking Dead is one of my favorite shows on TV right now, and last nights episode was awesome! I'm 100% sold on this show, and it's future. The crazy thing is, it's only going to get better from here! If you've read the comics then you know what I'm talking about.

This should surprise no one. After retaining a favorable percentage of the premiere audience, which was coincidentally the largest audience for an AMC original ever, The Walking Dead has been renewed for a second - and let's hope expanded - season. Only four more episodes remain of the show's initial order, but AMC isn't saying anything yet about the breadth of The Walking Dead's second season, let alone when it will air. Regardless, it's fantastic news for fans of the undead. Now that the Zombies have proven they have what it takes for prime-time, will the broadcast nets reconsider their moves away from genre programming as of late? The learning seems to be that if you have a good story viewers will tune in. Who'd have thunk it.

AMC has released the poster for Frank Darabont’s The Walking Dead, adapted from the comic series of the same name. The Walking Dead poster is a bleak image indeed, featuring protagonist Andrew Lincoln apparently going the wrong way. As bad an idea as it may seem, Lincoln is on a mission to reunite with his family – and yes, he’s that kind of hero.
The Walking Dead is known as a transcendent bit of story-telling, an effective and familiar zombie apocalypse story And an intense and challenging character driven epic. George Romero would be proud.

What if the current financial crisis in the U.S. becomes so severe that Americans start to flee the country?
Welcome to "Americatown," a Chinatown-like enclave of U.S. immigrants in cities around the world.
HBO is developing the futuristic drama series project, which hails from writer Bradford Winters and producers Tom Fontana, Barry Levinson, Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy.
Set 25-40 years into the future when the precipitous decline of the U.S. leads to a mass exodus of its citizens, "Americatown" takes place in a cluster of newly arrived American immigrants in a big foreign city.
"By presenting Americans as immigrants in the near future, as both underdog and hero in the drama of global dislocation, we substitute a mirror for the rancor that informs much of the partisan debates on immigration," Winters said.

Matt Czuchry, Jesse Bradford and Geoff Stults are raising their steins for "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell," the adaptation of the bawdy best-selling memoir of Tucker Max. Bob Gosse is directing.
Max rose to fame after launching TuckerMax.com in 2002, garnering millions of unique site visitors to read his short stories and a $300,000 advance for his alcohol-fueled memoir for Penguin Books.
The film, written by Max and Nils Parker, follows his trip to a friend's bachelor party, where he ensnares the groom in a lie that threatens the wedding, then abandons him to pursue further carnal knowledge. After being banned from the nuptials, Max attempts to get back into his friend's good graces.
Czuchry will play Tucker Max, marking the actor's first starring role in a feature film. Bradford and Stults will play Max's best friends.
Rounding out the cast are Keri Lynn Pratt (ABC's "Brothers & Sisters") and Denise Quinones ("The Bedford Diaries"). The film begins principal photography July 21 on location in Shreveport, La.
Darko Entertainment's Richard Kelly, Sean McKittrick and Ted Hamm along with Max and his partner Parker's Rudius Films. Max Wong and Karen Firestone of Pinkslip Pictures also will produce along with Aaron Ray of the Collective. Shaun Redick and Ray Mansfield of the Collective are executive producers.
Darko is financing "Beer in Hell," with the Collective handling the North American rights.
Czuchry ("Gilmore Girls") is repped by Gersh and the Collective.
Uta-repped Bradford recently completed Oliver Stone's "W" and next stars in horror thriller "The Echo." Bradford is also repped by Alchemy Entertainment.
Stults ("October Road") has "The Express" and "She's Out of My League" in the can. He is repped by Uta and the Collective.
