This short film is one of hundreds made by the Northern film partnership of Mitchell & Kenyon that lay for more than eighty years in sealed cans in the cellar of a shop. Now restored, they provide a fascinating insight into the daily lives of ordinary people in turn of the century northern England. The films were made for the regional market with those appearing on the screen also often making up members of the audience. There's not a great deal going on in this film, which lasts little longer than a minute. Rows of schoolchildren march forward and perform simple exercise routines before marching off the screen. Nothing remarkable then, but still strangely fascinating.
