Netflix has released a new teaser trailer for David Fincher's upcoming series Mindhunter. The series is set in 1979 and it follows two FBI agents, Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), who are trying to understand the mindset of serial killers.
In this teaser, right before Holden goes to meet with a serial killer, Bill scares the shit out of him when telling him what will happen if he brings a gun into the room with him when meeting with the killer. He tells him that the killer will take the gun, kill him, and then have sex with his face. It's a very dark kind of humor, which is something that Fincher is great at.
The series is an adaptation of the 1996 nonfiction novel by Mark Olshaker and John Douglas‘ called "Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit." I've provided a description of that book below the teaser.

People editors and true crime experts gathered for the People Magazine Investigates After Show, which aired Monday night, to analyze the series’s two-hour premiere about the Long Island Serial Killer case.
One conclusion from the group was about the “extraordinary” effect Shannan Gilbert had had on what happened. It was her disappearance, and the subsequent search for her, that led authorities to the 10-plus bodies in the Gilgo Beach area on Long Island, New York.
“Shannan Gilbert, whether she was a victim of this killer or not, has really done something extraordinary in our society,” author Robert Kolker said during the after show.

Late last year, we learned that David Fincher and Charlize Theron were teaming up for a Netflix series called Mindhunter. Fincher has cast Holt McCallany (Lights Out) in the lead role; the actor previously worked with Fincher on films such as Alien 3 and Fight Club.
Mindhunter is based on the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by former special agent John Douglas and Mark Olshaker. It offers the behind the scenes story of some of Douglas’ highest-profile cases, which includes the man who hunted prostitutes in Alaska, a child murderer in Atlanta, and Seattle’s Green River killer.
According to Deadline, the series will be set in 1979, and that “centers on the inquisitive and skilled FBI Agent Bill Tench (McCallany). Along with fellow serial killer investigator in the behavioral science unit, FBI agent Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff), Tench interviews serial killers to help them solve current murders.

Netflix might add another drama to its slate of original series. The streaming video-on-demand platform has reportedly picked up the serial killer-themed show Mindhunter, developed by House of Cards director and executive producer David Fincher alongside actress Charlize Theron.
The Mindhunter series is based off the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by Mark Olshaker and former special agent John Douglas. The book tells the backstory of Douglas’ methods for profiling and catching some of the most notorious serial killers, like the Atlanta child murderer and the Seattle Green River Killer Gary Ridgway. Douglas is already a familiar name in the film industry, as various TV and movie characters have been based off him (like Jack Crawford in Silence of the Lambs and Will Graham from Hannibal).
According a report from Deadline, producer Jennifer Orme Erwin originally brought the Mind Hunter book to Theron six years ago.

Whether you're a fright fanatic, a middle-of-the-row horror fan, or a "someone-dragged-me-here" who barely watches from between terrified, trembling fingers, you've probably noticed an interesting trend: a lot of recent horror movies are based on true stories. At least that's what the filmmakers would have us believe.
The all-too-common "based on a true story" or "based on true events," along with the less reliable "inspired by true events," have become ubiquitous additions to most horror movie marketing campaigns. But this is nothing new. Going all the way back to the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre's" iconic 1974 tagline -- "What happened is true. Now the motion picture that's just as real." -- the truth has always been an important tactic in upping the fear factor for audiences.
If events truly did happen, does that make it more frightening? The recent success of movies like "The Conjuring" (2013), "The Possession" (2012) and "The Haunting in Connecticut" (2009) point to a big "yes,...

The stakes quickly grow perilous, and the pair must rely on each other to discover the truth while navigating delicate class politics. “It’s a fun opportunity because of the comedy caper...

While slasher cinema owes a stylistic debt to Bob Clark's 1974 classic Black Christmas, it was John Carpenter's 1978 masterpiece Halloween that kicked the genre into overdrive, with dozens of productions and studios stumbling all over each other to get a piece of the slasher pie. One low-budget entry unfairly labeled a Halloween knock-off is Ulli Lommel's 1980 film The Boogeyman – a fascinating, stylish and entertaining little flick that I think deserves more love than it tends to get. Lommel began his film career as an actor and protégé of legendary German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder, who produced Lommel's acclaimed 1973 film The Tenderness of Wolves – a psychodrama based on the real-life exploits of serial killer Fritz Haarmann. Lommel's cinematic fascination with serial killers would continue much later in his career... but I'll get to that later. After directing a couple of oddball art films, Lommel took the helm of The Boogeyman,...

Dark Horse Comics is pound for pound the best comics publisher in the world with super franchises like the "Hellboy" universe, "The Goon," the "Whedonverse," and "Star Wars" under its belt. They've also released Frank Miller's finest work (not published by Marvel or DC), and many new, cutting edge series and graphic novels. Dark Horse has more than proved its reputation as the biggest non-big two publisher, though it's yet to truly hit that Marvel movieverse or "Dark Knight" level of success at the multiplexes. The "Hellboy" flicks, "Sin City," "300," and "The Mask" were big but not Big. And we'll pretend the Pam Anderson vehicle "Barb Wire" never happened.

America has always been crazy about serial killers.
They’re our homegrown werewolves. They click with the fast-food car culture that roars in the country’s busy, busy heart. They fit neatly with our cult-of-celebrity-style national mythology.
These beasts that seem like men, mowing through victims like McDonald’s cheeseburgers, speeding for the televised takedown by John Q. Law – how can the USA not be wild for them?
That love-hate crush has been around since the days of Dr. Henry Holmes’ murder hotel was cutting down the attendance at the Chicago Worlds’ Fair. But the nature of it has changed along with our politics and hemlines.
The mythical figure of the serial killer in our culture has gone through the wringer of our changing standard of living. From the time of the penny dreadfuls and pulps, all the way to mainstream torture porn, serial killers in crime fiction transformed.

We've got a new trailer for the upcoming thriller "Frozen Ground," — starring Nicolas Cage, Vanessa Hudgens and John Cusack — and in it one of them plays a cop, one of them plays a killer and one of them plays a stripper. But can you guess which is which?
Fingers crossed Cusack is the stripper!
Okay, so no dice on that one. As you might have guessed, it's Hudgens doing the stripping in this dark look at the real life murderer known as the Green River Killer. But — surprise! — the serial killer is played by Cusack this time around, with Cage joining the side of the angels as a law enforcement officer trying to track down and stop the baddie.
That twist might be about the only twist in the trailer, but if this sounds like your kind of bag, here's a look, courtesy of indieWire:...

The movers and shakers tend to flock together in Hollywood and there’s a hot feature film project that’s beginning to get some sparks at Disney called 1952. It’s the brainchild of Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) and Entertainment Weekly and Eisner-Nominated graphic novel writer Jeff Jensen (Green River Killer) and is being described as a tentpole film and cross-platform original property for Disney.
So who better to direct this mysterious blockbuster than Brad Bird (The Iron Giant, Ratatouille). The Incredibles director made his live-action debut last year with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, arguably the best in the Tom Cruise-produced film franchise based on the 1960′s television series. No word yet on whether this film will be animated, live-action, or a combination of both. In fact there’s not much known about 1952, period.
Lindelof is notorious for working under heavy secrecy having been one of the executive producers of Lost.

Pretty much the comic book Oscars, the 2012 nominations for the Eisner awards have been announced. There is quite are large showing from Marvel in the superhero department, not so much from DC. Surprising, considering the company’s high profile New 52 relaunch. Save for Jeff Lemire’s nomination for Best Writer, most of DC’s nomination are pre-relaunch, or from their Vertigo imprint which has been left untouched by the New 52. The nominations are usually as controversial as the Oscars, with books and whole companies being left out, much to fans, sometimes, anger and confusion.

As many of you may already know, each and every year, awards distributed at San Diego Comic Con to a few select (and noteworthy) nominees who are chosen by retailers and professionals in the comic book industry. The ceremony is better known as the Eisner Awards which is now heading into its 24th year with some great talent in the running. One of the most loved titles in this year’s nominee list is Marvel’s Daredevil, picking up 6 nominations that include Best Continuing Series, Best Single Issue, Best Writer (Mark Waid), Best Cover Artist (Marcos Martin), and Best Penciller/Inker Team Marcos Martin, and Paolo Rivera/Joe Rivera). DC also scored some decent recognition with their iZombie Vertigo series, gathering 3 nominations (Cover Art, Coloring, Inker/Penciller) for the creative team.

Although his films are hated by the vast majority of those unfortunate enough to stumble across them, German-born filmmaker Ulli Lommel keeps pumping them out like there’s no tomorrow. His latest endeavors have been of the “true crime” variety: “Son of Sam”, “Green River Killer”, and “B.T.K. Killer” are just a few of the offerings he’s bestowed upon the movie-going public over the past few years, and if his next project is any indication, the man doesn’t plan to cease and desist anytime soon. Lommel’s 2010 yarn “D.C. Sniper” chronicles the wave of terror that gripped the Maryland/Virginia area during October of 2002. Genre Veteran Ken Foree will portray John Allen Muhammad, the disturbed mastermind behind these horrific highway shootings. Personally, I have no interest in the film, as the subject matter is a little too fresh in our collective memory to be considered as cinematic entertainment,...

The Angels' Melancholy comes from director Marian Dora (who's had extensive experience working on horror and gore films like Btk Killer, Green River Killer, and Zombie Nation) and will be his second feature length film. The first, Cannibal, went straight to DVD. What ostensibly looks like an erotic thriller has the visual style of Jörg Buttgereit's Nekromantik and is more hard horror, similar to Last House on the Left. The trailer doesn't showcase much of this, but we've been told we might be able to get a red band trailer in a month.
A dark secret connects Katze and Brauth, two middle aged men. Katze has the clue that his end is near. The two friends meet again after years to share their last days in the old house where everything happened a long time ago. With three girls they met on their way, the atmosphere begins to recur a second time.
