Showtime has greenlit nine episodes of a reality TV version of their hit lesbian drama The L Word.
Led by L Word creator Ilene Chaiken and reality producers Magical Elves, the new reality series will follow six lesbians in Los Angeles as they go about their lives.
Showtime's pick-up of the series is contingent on the casting, which has not yet been completed.
"Even though we concluded our sixth season of The L Word on Showtime this past March," Chaiken explained to Variety, "I believe we are not nearly finished telling our L Word stories."
Many L Word fans, some of the actresses, and two of the show's co-creators were angered or disappointed by the murder-mystery focus of the last season, the finale in March, and some of the bizarre information revealed about the characters in the post-finale online "interrogation tapes." In July, Chaiken revealed at a conference on blogging...

Toronto -- Canadian cartoon producer Cookie Jar Entertainment has hired former Columbia TriStar and Paramount TV division boss Tom Mazza to lead its hunt for the next "Flashpoint."
Burbank-based Mazza will spearhead the push into U.S. network series and syndicated fare for the Toronto-based producer as head of a new primetime label, the Jar.
Mazza, who most recently ran branded entertainment studio Madison Road Entertainment ("Treasure Hunters") with Jak Severson, joins Cookie Jar as executive vp and head of worldwide TV, with a focus on moving the company beyond animation and into live-action family programming, ideally for the 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. primetime slots.
Cookie Jar is joining a crowded field of Canadian producers, including E1 Television and Shaftsbury Films, who recently have been able to co-produce dramas with U.S. networks no longer willing to shoulder the cost of scripted series on their own.

NEW YORK -- NBC sent contestants to far-flung Hawaii and Alaska for the first round of Treasure Hunters, but the two-hour premiere of the adventure reality series couldn't match Game 5 of the NBA Finals over on ABC. Final ratings data for Sunday night's game won't be available until Tuesday, although it was the highest-rated of the series so far. And it was a nail biter, with the Miami Heat slipping past the Dallas Mavericks 101-100, to take a 3-2 series lead. Game 6 will be held Tuesday night in Dallas. Sunday's game delivered a 10.2 household rating in the metered markets, according to data released Monday morning by Nielsen Media Research. That's up 2% compared to last year's 10 household rating and up 32% compared to 2003's Game 6, which also did not feature the Los Angeles Lakers.
