Remember the day before your school's Christmas vacation, when you and the other kids were so wild with excitement that you couldn’t even stay in your seats, so your teacher just passed out candy canes and put on a video and got the hell out of the way? I'm pretty sure that was exactly how it felt in Studio 8H last night, as Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake delivered a near-perfect Christmas episode to an ecstatic crowd. These guys were the ideal choice to finish out the year: They...

This past Saturday's John Goodman–hosted Saturday Night Live was not the best episode of the season. A few bright spots (like Goodman's "Last Call" sketch with Kate McKinnon) and one serious low point: "Three Wise Guys," which found Goodman flanked by noted comedians Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro. It's a spoof of the three wise men. Get it? They're in tracksuits, but they're on camels. The sketch was bad. How bad was it? So bad it was pitched as a sketch on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, a show notorious for its awful show-within-a-show sketch ideas. On the Christmas episode (itself deeply terrible), Tom (Nate Corddry) and Simon (D.L. Hughley) sit in on a writers meeting with Lucy (Lucy Davis) and Darius (Columbus Short, now on Scandal), where Darius pitches a sketch called "We Three Wise Guys." He's mostly ignored, which we now know is the correct response.

Track suits and turbans came together in star-studded fashion on "SNL" last night thanks to "Three Wise Guys," in which host John Goodman and "Grudge Match" co-stars Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone played "lesser" versions of the Biblical Magi present at the scene of the baby Jesus's virgin birth. "Do we even know his last name, this Jesus?" asks one. "Christ, I don't know," answers another. Also, the inevitable camel toe joke. Merry freakin' Christmas, everybody. Follow Riot on Twitter...

Just call John Goodman, Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro the Three Wise Guys. Goodman, who was hosting Saturday Night Live for the 13th! time on Dec. 14, teamed up for a humorous Christmas-themed skit with the Grudge Match stars. The trio, riding their camels in bright tracksuits, was on their way to deliver gifts to the baby Jesus. Except, they weren't from the Far East, but "rather from the east coast, mainly Long Island and New Jersey." And the whole journey consisted of the men telling jokes and gossiping about the baby. "Do we even know his last name, this Jesus?" Goodman asked his pals. "Christ, I don't know," De Niro responded as the audience laughed....

Thirteen times; seriously, John Goodman has now hosted Saturday Night Live 13 times. I can’t think of anything significant I’ve ever done 13 times. And I was really looking forward to maybe rubbing Goodman’s episode in the faces of those who are just holding on until Fallon/Timberlake next week. It’s not that those two aren’t great; they are, and all of my fingers are crossed for them. But Goodman has been just as good in the past, an SNL champion if ever there was one.
It was 2001 when Goodman last hosted and, for reference, Ja Rule was the musical guest.

Not even John Goodman's jovial versatility and past hosting experience (this was his 13th time around) could revive this week's paltry set of Saturday Night Live sketches. While there was no great standout, several skits gave us at least a little something. In the cold open about Obama's various hiccups at Nelson Mandela's funeral, while Kate McKinnon presented one of her best impressions--Angela Merkel--the skit centered on the inept sign language interpreter, a variation of a used joke that was far better the first time. It looked like little effort was made with "Inside Llewyn Davis" star John Goodman's monologue: he just introduced himself and then sang a song called "All I Want for Christmas is Booty." Judging from audience response, the favorite sketch of the night was "Three Wise Guys," which brought out Grudge Match" co-stars Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone to join...

John Goodman returned to Saturday Night Live to host the show for the 13th time this week, and got into the holiday spirit with the help of fake camels and some whipped cream. Surprise guests included Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro, who joined the Inside Llewyn Davis star for a sketch about three lesser-known biblical figures, the Three Wise Guys. Check out some of the episode's best sketches below:

John Goodman hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time in twelve years last night (and coincidentally it was his thirteenth time taking the reins at Studio 8H) with musical guest Kings Of Leon. The comedy giant brought his usual energy and perfect comic timing to the show, but he also brought along Sylvester Stallone and Robert DeNiro for the ride.
Saturday Night Live is not only an American comedy institution, but it’s also a hotbed of celebrity cameos. Last night Sylvester Stallone and Robert DeNiro showed up opposite Goodman in a flimsily-premised sketch about the “Three Wise Guys.”
As always, Goodman seemed game for anything, whether it was doing a stupid dance dressed as a snowflake, squeezing into skinny jeans in an H&M sketch or dancing to R. Kelly in drag. He even showed up on Weekend Update as Drunk Uncle’s Drunk Uncle. Together, Goodman and...

When it's a host's 13th time on "Saturday Night Live," there are a few givens: first, there will be mad special guests. Second, it's definitely going to be funny. Both were true for John Goodman, whose lucky 13 on Dec. 14 saw special guests like Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone perform in a solid lineup of funny sketches.
Let's revisit them:
Mandela Sign Language Interpreter Cold Open
The "SNL" opening sketch is often a snoozer -- something political-themed and not laugh out loud funny -- but Kenan Thompson as a "sign language" interpreter gesturing nonsense behind Jay Pharoah's President Obama was hilarious.
Monologue
Nailed it -- we assumed Goodman would sing in his monologue, though it wasn't a folky "Inside Llewyn Davis" tie-in, instead a duet with Thompson on the surprisingly catchy "All I Want for Christmas is Booty."
Guy Fieri Christmas Special

Last night marked Saturday Night Live hosting gig #13 for John Goodman, who noted that he’d last hosted in 2001 but stopped “because I had to work.” Speaking of having to work, the Inside Llewyn Davis co-star wasn’t the only veteran actor who showed up to promote a new flick: Grudge Match duo Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro dropped by to cameo alongside Goodman as the “Three Wise Guys” in a pre-holiday Nativity sketch (Sly & De Niro’s old-guy boxing pic hits theaters on Christmas Day). Unfortunately they lacked the ease Goodman had elsewhere even dressed as a snowflake and a woman. Meanwhile Kenan Thompson got significant screentime in multiple sketches through the night, including a stint as Black Santa as Weekend Update poked fun at Megyn Kelly‘s recent yuletide comments. Is 13 an unlucky number?
Based on John Goodman‘s hosting gig on this week’s Saturday Night Live — no lie, it was his 13th time on the job — I’m pretty much convinced the answer is “yes.”

Indeed, Goodman was saddled with such grimly unfunny material, I half wondered if the Grinch had arrived at Studio 8H, loaded all of this week’s punch lines into a sack and took ‘em back up the chimney. Or maybe he just hurled ‘em into a blazing fire.
And while you’d think/hope it...

John Goodman hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend – his 13th time overall and first since 2001, when Ja Rule seved as the sketch show’s musical guest.
Obama On Mandela Funeral
Jay Pharoah reprised his impersonation of Barack Obama in Saturday Night Live’s cold open, while Kenan Thompson played the now infamous fake sign language interpreter from Nelson Mandela's funeral. Kate McKinnon joined him at the podium as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and asked for a selfie with the president, saying, “I feel like you kind of owe me after that wiretapping mein cell phone thing.”

Donning a Midwestern accent, Goodman played a doctor who moonlights as a snowflake in the Dearborn Community Playhouse Holiday Pageant. As he teetered back in forth, he was joined by Aidy Bryant, Vanessa Bayer and Thompson. All of the snowflake dancers were heard in voiceover cursing themselves for...

John Goodman brought mainstays from his comedic bag of tricks to this week's Saturday Night Live: drag, yelling and good old blues. The actor, who hosted for the 13th time, teamed up with Kenan Thompson for a soulful opening monologue song, "All I want for Christmas is Booty." Later, he played a woman suing her employer, claiming she was fired for being too hot. (She wasn't.) Goodman also teamed up with surprise guests (and Grudge Match costars) Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone to tell the story of “Three Wise Guys." This camel-riding trio was on
