Reality bites/dies

Not sure whom this was aimed at (one tag line being "Watch your favorite reality stars ... DIE!". Was that for fans or haters of reality TV? Plus does anyone even remember those people after those shows are of the air? Like the 15 minutes of fame are over, who are you again? But it would be unfair to scrutinize all of them. Because some of them seem to actually be able to act.

Not that there is much chance that they were going to show it in this movie, but I've seen worse. Story is pretty simple and you can see things coming a mile off. What is really interesting and might be a better story, is the making of the movie. Seems like a lot ruckus went down behind the scenes, which you only get a glimpse of in the making of section (second DVD). Looks like a reality TV crew was following the "real" crew around. For real! (the show has a promo on the DVD and is called "Kill reality") Seems like not everyone was happy about that ... watch the outtakes for that ... again the special features are almost more intriguing (in a car crash kind of way) than the movie itself

Killer Ghost Sheet!

This movie, for all intents and purposes, is plotless. The gimmick of this film is it's a horror movie starring a whole slew of long forgotten reality stars (I was familiar with ONE, based on notoriety alone). The Scorned, aside from there being virtually no plot, definitely suffers from too large a cast. It is all over the place.

The framework they've got going goes like this: A filmmaker and his fiance live in this huge house. Chick's friend moves in. She is an "actress," and starts working with the guy. An affair ensues. Then a big fight ensues, and the fiance gets it in the neck with a fireplace poker, which sends her into a coma. Guy moves, and rents the house to a s#!t-ton of horny reality stars. Inexplicably, the woman in the coma haunts the rental house, efficiently killing off all the "cheaters." But really, the heart of this movie is bickering, bedrooms, and boobs. Featured prominently are some of the world's worst special effects for 2005.

The only appeal I could find in this abortion, and it is a stretch, is for guys (and a few ladies for the man-ass) actually familiar with these stars -- At least half the ladies get naked.

I dunno, this pretty much fails on every level -- as a horror movie, a ghost story, a drama, a soap opera, characterizations, relationships, as well as a coherent narrative.

SPOILER: Woman comes out of her coma (after being unplugged at one point), goes to confront her ex-husband-to-be, kills herself, then somehow, some way, impales the guy with a fireplace poker... from beyond the grave! So she's still a ghost able to manipulate a material object from beneath the floor? I mean, complete and utter nonsense.

I watched the extras on this, and can safely say the behind the scenes stuff is infinitely more interesting than the movie turned out to be. They turned it into a TV series (for one season, Kill Reality), and good luck finding it! This is all given that you're not already sick to death of reality TV drama, relationships, catfights, and meltdowns.

As bad as you'd expect. Maybe even worse.

This was always going to be a terrible movie. No way around that. The only question was whether it would be just plain terrible or would it manage to reach previously uncharted heights (or depths) of awfulness. Not surprisingly considering the "talent" on display The Scorned does in fact go way, way beyond being simply terrible. This is one epically, monstrously, unimaginably terrible movie. The plot is stupid and makes very little sense. And the acting is uniformly pitiful. This has to be the worst cast assembled in movie history. For anyone who thought acting was easy let this movie serve as a rebuttal to that premise. These reality TV "stars" prove that acting is in fact hard work, especially when you have absolutely zero talent. And there is absolutely zero talent on display here. Not one performer comes across credibly, not a one. They're all so hideous that to single anyone out seems almost unfair. But the heck with being fair. Bob Guiney and Tonya Cooley should never be allowed to open their mouths in public again. This would be a great service to the human race. Their "acting" may be the most inept, pathetic endeavor in the history of humankind. They make the just routinely awful Jenna Lewis and Steven Hill look like Hepburn and Brando by comparison. A special mention also for Ethan Zohn who goes way too far in playing a bizarre, offbeat character. He needed to dial it down about a thousand notches or so. His character ends up being just the stupidest thing in a movie which is nothing but a huge, steaming pile of stupid. For all the "stars" of this movie their 15 minutes of fame is well and truly up. The tribe has spoken. It's time for you to go.

For some reason because E! sponsored this movie I thought that it could be decent. Decent...not good. But what was good about this thing? Seriously. THe acting was horrible (Bob Guiney withstanding). THe special effects were horrible. The picture/sound quality was horrible. And the plot????? Come on, there is a ghost killing people for 'cheating' on their lovers. The only thing....the ghost was for a woman that was still alive! Doesn't that tell you all you want to know. The story was not scary at all and it was very boring. You think soap opera acting is bad....wait until you see this.....actually please don't waste your time.

Can I Have The Last Hour and A Half Of My Life Back???

I can't say that I enjoyed this movie on a whole; the plot was cliché and full of holes, there were more than a few errors in filming, and it just generally sucked; but I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed Ethan Zohn's character. Now, some might say that I am being biased, due to my love of Survivor, but I found the other three former-Survivors characters flat and boring, just as I expected them. Ethan showed a real flare for acting, or perhaps a personal knowledge for the type of character(Ham), but it was excellent and refreshing. The only reason to watch this movie is to see Ethan's character, feel free to fast forward through the rest.

Horribly, horribly bad

OK, here's the plot. A lover's triangle/quarrel results in one dead woman. Her ghost comes back to extract revenge on the living. One by one she gets back at them. I couldn't "spoil" this movie because it's rotten anyway, not that I've given up anything here. The only sad part is that the movie didn't just line up all the actors and finish them off in the first two minutes of the movie, say with a large caliber machine-gun, then any hapless viewer would be spared the next 82 or 83 minutes of misery. We watch a bunch of former reality TV show stars try to act and find out they can't; not a one of them has an ounce of talent. Many of them seem to enjoy taking their clothes off, but a couple of them should have passed on this option. Whatever we see in this film doesn't compensate for the time wasted viewing it. The really big question is why this movie was made.

Could Make You As Comatose As The Killer

This review has major spoilers, and I don't feel bad about because this movie was just plain bad. The stars of reality TV are out to prove that they can produce and star in a movie, and they wind up proving that they're bad actors. Not that the bad premise helps at all, and several elements of the plot are just ridiculous. A woman catches her neglected boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend, they all have a fight, and the woman winds up in a coma. The producers and director decide to hide the coma, and lead us to believe this woman is dead, for what reason I don't know. If they wanted to obscure the past, why start the movie with the fight? Why not leave out the first 15-20 minutes, and reveal the past as the movie progresses? 17 months later, the spirit of this girlfriend kills any tenant of the house whenever they cheat on their lovers. Why she kills these people first and not her boyfriend and her best friend is a good question. The incredible supernatural strength she displays in her killings should mean that she can easily kill who she wants. The worst scene is when a couple tell each other about their infidelities, and a lava lamp explodes, its contents burning the two until they're nothing but ashes. But what hurts this movie even more is the subpar acting. It's like a bunch of friends making a home video; it's meaningful to the people involved, but the rest of us don't want to see it. Back to your day jobs, reality stars.

What happens when you don't cast ACTORS for your film...

One cracked and broken step above pornography, this "movie" tells the tale of a comatose lover whose spirit leaves her body to wreak havoc at an old beach house, killing random lovers who cheat. This may sound like an interesting idea, but it is so poorly executed, it's not really worth anyone's 87 minutes. That's 5220 seconds, by the way. 5220 long, long seconds. Anyway, let's start with the cast. It is comprised entirely of reality TV stars. This is a failed gimmick, because none of them can act. The only performance that is even entertaining is that of Ethan Zohn, who plays an eccentric, half baked, (okay, totally baked) psychic. I'm not saying his performance is good, it's just so crazy it's funny. And then there's Jenna Lewis. My question is, why cast this lady in one of the main roles when her voice sounds like she has sandpaper in her throat? Her voice cracks whenever she tries to scream, for Pete's sake! The rest of the cast is terrible. Remember, these are contestants on a TV show, not actors. The plot is slow too. The filmmakers fit in as much sappy TV style "drama" as they can, only killing these annoying characters off in the last 20 minutes or so. And I'd say that a good 30 percent of this film is pure sex scenes.

So basically, fans of reality TV won't like the gore, and fans of gore won't like the reality stars. So there's really no reason for anyone to watch this trash.

Anyhow, it's Christmas, I've got better stuff to do.

Cute Movie - Full of fun

Keeping it brief, I found this movie to be a hoot. Lots of fun, lots of reality people doing something different, acting. Some are quite good at it, others are having so much fun, you just get caught up in it.

Lots of fun to watch and lots of fun to place the reality person and the show they are from.

The story is pretty basic: Woman Scorned, myaterious things happen, people die, parties happen, people fool around, people die... then the revelation takes place and you understand it all.

Has it been done before? Sure. Have you heard these lines before? Well only if you watch reality TV. Hearing and laughing at the "core" reality lines and references coming up in something other than a reality show is a lot of fun.

I thought this movie was a lot of fun.

A Good Movie

The Scorned (2005) 5.5/10 Trish Schneider, Steven Hill, Jenna Lewis, Bob Guiney, Trishelle Cannatella

I just finished watching "The Scorned" on E! I give the movie a 5.5/10... the Unrated version will probably be a 6 or 6.5/10, so.... yeah, the acting was bad for the most part, except for Trishelle. Her chase/death scene was pretty awesome. Jenna Lewis, Stephen Hill, bad. Stacie J, Bob Guiney, bad.

Trishelle Cannatella, Trish Schneider Tonya Cooley, Ethan Zohn, good. And by good, I mean by comparison. The movie is about an "angel of death" who returns to the house where her fiancé cheated on her to kill every unfaithful lover who is there. The movie had a very small budget, but the visuals and such are all good. It's the acting that brought the score so low.

The movie is campy. It has a lot of funny reality TV references in it. There's plenty of violence, which is always good, and plenty of sex. It brings you back to the old 70s and 80s horror movies where it was mainly about sex and violence. It's not "genre-breaking" like it claims to be, but it is a fun little ride.

As a horror movie, it's not very scary, but I wasn't expecting it to be. Some of the editing was scary (and I mean scary bad, not in a good way). The script suffers a little bit from an ensemble of first-time writers (including Rob Cesternino of Survivor fame).

Umm... I guess it's worth a watch. Don't go in with high hopes and you'll enjoy it.

Total Guilty Pleasure

My love affair with this movie definitely began during the "making of" TV show on E!, Kill Reality. By the time the TV show ended I was geeked to see just how these people would die! I was happily surprised by most of the script.I actually thought that the casting was brilliant. It has most of my favorites and I got a huge kick out of watching their first attempt in the movie business. I thought Ethan Zohn was super convincing. His death scene, although super bloody was my favorite! Sweet justice is served watching Jonny "Fairplay" Dalton finally get what he deserves. The DVD is way better than the E! version. The extras are classic.

Moderately entertaining if in the right mood

"The Scorned" is a watchable if overall pretty decent entry.

Arriving at a secluded beach house, Kirsten, (Jenna Lewis) Oliver, (Steven Hill) Seth, (Reichen Lehmkuhl) D.Q, (Jon Dalton) Jennifer, (Tonya Cooley) and Trish, (Stacie Jones Upchurch) prepare for a weekend of partying and fun. As the group has a lot of history, they take a while to get used to the arrangements. When one of them suddenly dies in the house, the others get freaked out, and owner Matt, (Bob Guiney) wants them to let it go and get on with their weekend. As the weekend continues and more strange deaths occur nearby, they start to dig into the house's past and come across an incident in the past involving him, his fiancée Raina, (Trish Schneider) and her friend Nichola, (Trishelle Cannatella) that turned into an ugly accident. Using this with other information gathered from their search, they realize the true happenings in the house and rush to put an end to them once and for all.

The Good News: This here wasn't all that bad, and had some pretty good points in it. This here does a pretty great job of staying watchable when it's not concentrating on the horror elements. That is a hard task, as most don't even get that, yet this here never really becomes slow or boring. This is a great task to accomplish and that gives the film a high sensibility. The film gets into it's best moments with it's death scenes, which are quite exhilarating and include some great action scenes. There's a really great meltdown from being sprayed with acid where two victims, sprayed at the same time, burn down to charred remains together, being impaled from the back with a spiked rod and having it rip their heart out, slashed across the throat with a fire-poker, thrown head-first down a staircase and having a throat ripped out, among more kills. It's a shame that most of those are verified by being shown what the after-affect looks like, but there's still enough blood and gore in here to really be impressed. That they're all involved in pretty big action scenes makes them even better. There's more to the scenes than just the violent death, and by doing so makes the scene seem even more fun. That all of them are like this is a great surprise. This one even features a few mildly decent shock scenes, including a brilliant one where the ghost appears in silhouette underneath sheets of fluffed bed-sheets, then disappears when it's fixed properly. That is a pretty chilling scene, and this one does have a few good similar scenes along the way. These here help to make the film slightly better than it should've been.

The Bad News: This one wasn't terrible, but it did have some problems. The biggest one is that there's not a whole lot of action in the film. This one's real action scenes are essentially it's killing scenes, and without a super-huge body count, there's some really long stretches of nothing going on. It manages to still stay interesting, but it does have some time between that are quite short on things going on. This one really could've used a couple other good action scenes to really pump up the pace somewhat, as the only time anything happens is the murder scenes. Another flaw is the film's tired and clichéd plot. There's no counting how many of these are taken from other films out there, with almost no tweaking whatsoever, and then just dropped straight in and nothing is made of it. The fact that it plays out like every single revenge film out there doesn't do it any favors. The last big flaw is the obvious lack of anything done in the gore scenes. This one really concentrates on the after-affects for it's gore and there's just hardly any done with on-screen kills before going to the aftermath to get the gore shown. That could be a problem for some, as the kills are certainly graphic enough but this one to be mostly the way it is would be a flaw. These here hold the film back.

The Final Verdict: This isn't a severely flawed film, but it does have enough good points to make it watchable or at least a guilty pleasure. Those who enjoy the gimmick behind the film or are just plain curious about it should give it a shot, while those who don't like it or think the flaws would be more overbearing would be advised to seek caution.
