For years later the Tito Ortiz vs. Frank Shamrock Middleweight Title fight was the best UFC fight in history. It wasn't until recent years did any fights surpass it.
The fight was won by Shamrock in a sense kind of like an MMA rope-a-dope in similar fashion that Muhammed Ali beat George Foreman. Frank duped Tito into wearing himself out and totally shooting through his cardio to where Frank could swoop in during the later rounds and go for the kill once Tito had shot his load. Which is exactly what happened.
Shortly prior to this fight the UFC fights changed their round and time system. They started to go to 5 minute rounds with championship fights going for 5 rounds and non title fights were 3 round fights. This was the first UFC fight to go beyond 3 rounds since most UFC fights at the time were fairly 1 sided and the winner finished his opponent in a quick manner.
