The all-woman jury at the 15th Nifff’s (Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival) has awarded the festival’s main prize, the H.R. Giger “Narcisse” award for best picture, to Jeremy Saunier’s Green Room.
The jury led by Zoe Bell (Death Proof) called Saunier’s film “an unstoppable and irresistibly dark coming-of-age survival, and a punk rock killer machine of a story”.
With the Narcisse award, Saunier also wins a cash prize of 10,000 Swiss francs (approx $10,650) from the city of Neuchâtel.
Another of the festival’s main awards, the Méliès d’argent for best European feature, went to Anders Thomas Jensen’s Men & Chickens.
Meanwhile, Nifff’s international critics’ award went to Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation.

We're working on collecting fashions and awardage for two final big Cannes posts before tomorrow's closing ceremony awards but this one deserved it own special bone post as appetizer. The most famous recipient of the Palm Dog prize at Cannes is still Uggie from The Artist (2011) but the tradition continues each year and the lucky dogs were honored at the UK Film Centre this year, which is apparently the 15th year of the award.
Palm Dog "Dixie" from Arabian Nights (Portugal). The Canine actor's name is "Lucky" who is a Maltese terrier and poodle mix. Apparently she steals the show in the second half of the six hour (gulp) movie. You can read more about this picture in our We Can't Wait 2015 preview
Grand Jury Prize: "Bob the Dog" from The Lobster (Greece). Bob is played by father and son canine team "Jaro" and "Ryac". It's fitting that two dogs...

Some gigs really aren't worth taking. That's a maxim that the members of broke touring punk band Ain't Rights probably haven't heard of and certainly aren't going to adhere to when they get offered $350 to play a backwater skinhead bar. That's more than enough money to get them all the way home without needing to syphon any more gas. They've played to plenty of rough crowds before, so what could go wrong? Green Room starts out as a pretty typical band on the road movie, but quickly transforms into something very, very different. When the band witnesses something they're not supposed to see, things go from dangerous to downright deadly. And along the way, much, much blood is spilled and many internal organs are...

Best-selling author Sir Terry Pratchett passed away on Thursday, March 12, and the final tweets from his Twitter account were a fitting and poignant way to announce his passing. Even though I knew it was coming, given Terry’s long struggle with Alzheimer’s and attendant health issues, it broke my heart a little bit more to hear that it really was the end.
I was fortunate to know Terry for almost ten years, beginning with my work on The North American Discworld Conventions after meeting Terry at a book signing in 2005 Along with being a great light in this world and one of my all-time favorite authors, he was also my longtime friend; and it’s hard to know how to sum up my feelings in the wake of his passing.

Broad Green Pictures and Imax Corporation have come on board to complete financing of Voyage of Time, the nature documentary Tree of Life director Terrence Malick has been working on for the past 30 years. Broad Green, the entity behind financial drama 99 Homes and the upcoming thriller Green Room, is back-stopping Voyage of Time, meaning they have the option of releasing the film themselves in North American after an exclusive Imax release of the title. Broad Green recently closed a deal in Sundance, for a reported high seven figures, to take U.S. rights to the Robert Redford-

President Obama has relied heavily on YouTube and its stars to get his platform across to younger, more digital-savvy audiences. He plans to continue this online video strategy after his upcoming State of the Union address when YouTube creators Bethany Mota, GoZell Green, and Hank Green will interview him on January 22, 2015.
YouTube’s blog noted its creators have been interviewing the President since 2010. However, those discussions were conducted by YouTubers via live Google+ hangouts, and questions were submitted by viewers beforehand through YouTube video submissions. This year, Google’s online video site is taking a different approach with a live broadcast directly from the White House.
Mota, Green, and Green will sit down with the Potus (possibly and somewhat ironically in the Green Room, which the event’s video trailer hints at) to ask him questions about the most pressing issues facing them and their fans. The three YouTubers are...

It Crowd fans rejoiced everywhere yesterday afternoon (November 17) as a Countdown contestant wore a Moss-themed T-shirt.
Asset manager Danny Davies won a legion of fans after wearing a shirt bearing the words: "Good morning, that's a nice tnetennba."
The quote is from an episode which saw Moss (Richard Ayoade) appear on the Channel 4 quiz show.
However, host Nick Hewer was seemingly unaware of the comedy reference, and Davies didn't help him out much.
When asked what he had written on his chest, Davies replied: "It's Tnetennba."
Viewers tweeted their approval of his geeky shirt, including none other than It Crowd creator Graham Linehan.
Davies later blogged about his day on the set of Countdown, explaining that the crew actually asked him to keep the shirt on.
"Whilst waiting in the Green Room for my show, I kept asking when I would go and get changed into my lovely ironed...

Ages And Ages' album "Divisionary" came out all the way back in March, but in the past two weeks, that set's come back into the spotlight. The indie rock group's "Divisionary (Do the Right Thing)" worked its way into the season premiere of "The Blacklist" on NBC during the last week of September. So while new fans are turned on, check out "Light Goes Out," a HitFix exclusive music video premiere, below. Keep your cat close, you may learn something about yourself: From bandleader Tim Perry on the video's creation: For "Light Goes Out," we wanted a video that encompassed the various components of this band, the song, and it's message. Lgo takes a pretty firm stance on living a life of meaning over distraction but it also explores some of the tension within that belief. We wanted to portray this tension, the separate elements that make up a cohesive outlook.

They made a small blip on the radar with the Cannes pick-up of Carlos Marques-Marcet’s SXSW-winning 10000km, and until the press release was announced, we thought they were known more as a production entity with the Tiff-preemed Learning to Drive from Spanish helmer Isabel Coixet. But make no mistake about it, Daniel Hammond’s Broad Green Pictures is coming out of the woodworks by swinging for the fences — landing the critically lauded Ramin Bahrani film that surfaced in perfect Telluride-Venice-tiff trifecta. U.S rights were picked up for a cool $3 million with what was probably an interesting P&A commitment. A spring of 2015 release is expected for 99 Homes, meaning we can expect this to go the Jeff Nichols’ Mud/Derek Cianfrance The Place Beyond the Pines route of being among the earliest award mentions in the calendar year.
