When Emma Benton-Hughes was left by her husband she had very little money and needed work fast. She became a stripper-gram and then moved into glamour-modelling. Looking to make the most of her work, "Eve" opened her own fan club and was soon swamped with subscriptions and fan mail to the point where she couldn't cope. Hiring her brother and her mother to help her reply to them. The story of this is intercut with her brother's newest job a comedy show where he reads out the letters to an audience.
Watching this film I must admit that it has curiosity value and is quite amusing but ultimately it doesn't do anything that interesting for the majority. The film is evenly split between the comedy show and talking heads with those involved. The show itself is amusing mainly because of the presenter's accents and musical style providing such juxtaposition with the words being spoken. It is amusing but I'm not sure how long the actual show runs for because even in clips the joke did get a bit thin after a while. The bits in between are people being interviewed and mostly this is just them relating how the letters arrived, how they got involved and so on none of it is particularly boring but none of it is particularly interesting either. There is some attempts at insight but it is very bland and after a while I felt that the only thing this film did was to publicise the comedy show which I suppose might well be true.
Emma seems bemused by it all looking back. Trunk's contributions seem far too rehearsed and unnatural. Sullivan's segments are really just parts of the show and he is the main reason for watching. The most amusement I got out of the film was seeing the very rich owner of the Sport etc David Sullivan I defy anyone to watch him for 30 seconds and not see David Brent in the flesh.
Overall a sort of amusing film that gets laughs from shock value and strange combinations of accents and words. It doesn't do anything else of real value or interest and just ends up being an advert for the comedy show. Could and should have been more than just this and in that regard it does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity.
