I was thinking of this episode following the 2016 US presidential election, and it's timely to reflect on Shirts and Skins.

Dustin Nguyen is impressive as always as Officer Ioki, as he and Officer Hoffs investigate the murder in a skinhead group, and themes of anti-Asian racism arise in this thoughtful episode.

When Ioki defended himself against skinheads by doing martial arts moves on one of them, I was cheering Ioki on big time. Ioki wasn't a scrawny wimp to be messed around with. I was bit riled though when Ioki apologized to the skinhead at the end of the episode, bringing the white racist to tears. But really, why should minorities have to wrap things up by apologizing to their perpetrators? Huh?! It should have been the other way around.
