Shades of "Perils of Pauline"
toddeverett8 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This must have been a lot of fun to write and produce. Bound and gagged in a remote house, Jeff hasn't much to do but struggle silently as various opportunities for death or salvation stop by (this remote location turns out to be very busy) -- all are varying degrees of implausible.

Will Jeff escape, of is this the end of his participation in a series that will run several seasons longer? Were they kidding? One of the bad guys is named "Hammett."

Sorry... that's suspense music I found in a review of The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Anyway, DOES Jeff Spencer get away? That was the question asked in a previous review of "Attic".

Well, let me ask you, dear reader. Do you kill off a Lead in one of YOUR network's top-rated series, when there are no huge production problems with the studio making the show (in this Case Warner Bros.), or the star in question (Roger Smith)? WHAT DO YOU THINK???

Good story
searchanddestroy-128 December 2015
This episode does take place outside L.A. but that doesn't prevent us to have the usual the jazzy atmosphere which we had in other episodes, a musical atmosphere usually used with urban stories. It's not the best of the series, just an agreeable episode where John Dehner plays a good heavy, a character which he was not so used to in his career. You have already read the topic above, so...

Jeff carries the whole thing here and the suspense is at the rendezvous. And I don't mention Lee Van Cleef in a very early performance, and not as a priest...

Yes, a rather solid tale, and nothing light or comedy touch here. Unlike so many other episodes of the series.

A standout episode; one of the very best of the series
shakspryn26 April 2023
This is a brilliant episode: highly creative, filled with drama and excitement, plus a big and interesting cast. The writer especially deserves a lot of praise.

Kathleen Crowley, the woman in the gang of robbers, is particularly good in her role. She often conveys her feelings without even having to speak, plus she is very beautiful! The danger Jeff is in for the whole episode, and the variety of things that we see happen which could affect his fate, makes this an adventure that you won't forget. It is not only one of the best episodes of this series, it is one of the most well-executed episodes of any American TV show, especially a detective show. Yes, it is that good!
