After losing her best friend to a car accident, Lucy has finally gotten the courage to make another friend. That friend turns out to be Nicole Jacobs (Allison Mack), a girl in one of her classes that just moved to Glenoak. When she comes over to the Camden household frequently, Mary is suspicious of Lucy's new friend. One night, after hearing Lucy and Mary arguing over Nicole's visits, she supposedly flees to Lucy's room. Mary, after arguing with Matt, she goes into the conveniently unlocked bathroom where she discovers a secret that Nicole has held from everyone in Glenoak. She's caught up in the devastating trend of cutting, hence the title of this episode. An already, and constantly, emotional Lucy learns of this along with her parents courtesy of Mary. Reverend Camden alerts Nicole's father and he is surprised, but not as surprised as expected. He tells Eric that she has done this before so that's the reason they moved in the first place. Nicole seeks help and is sent to hospital to treat her. Yet again, Lucy has lost a best friend due to secrets.
