THE OUT-OF-TOWNERS is a solid episode of THE A-TEAM. It benefits from a change of setting, with the hoodlum-filled streets of New York a nice alternative to the usual rural installations that have provided a setting for the action of the earlier episodes. This one has a blaxploitation feel to it, with a typically larger-than-life Yaphet Kotto making for a great guest villain and DIRTY HARRY's Albert Popwell a decent henchmen. Expect the usual cheesy action, one-liners, and '80s excess.

The Out-of-Towners

At least Hannibal dispensed with his convoluted introduction process in this episode.
The A Team fly into New York to help out local businesses who are forced into paying 'insurance' money to a local gangster.
Hannibal is disguised as a blind electronics repairman as Face hired a small repair shop in the neighbourhood. The heavies pay the shop a visit and even throw a television out of the window.
The local Mr Big is Charles 'East-Side Charlie' F. Struthers played by Yaphet Kotto. Who incidentally played Mr Big in the Bond movie Live and Let Die.
There is a terrific scene when Hannibal reveals himself to East Side Charlie in his own club. The action packed finale is another one that keeps the stuntmen busy but it is rather superfluous, East Side Charlie should had been dealt with in his own club. Instead we have silly scenes with Murdock running around in a drum with machine guns going off. No wonder people started to complain about the violence.
What i want to know is where were the police in all this. Did east Side Charlie pay them money to turn a blind eye?
Some familiar faces are in this episode. Robert Tessier, Priscilla Pointer, Robert Tessier and Jack Kruschen.
