While there was a belief that John James Audubon may have been Louis XVII the Dauphin (heir apparent to the throne) of France, there were many others as well. Louis was born 27 March 1785 and Audubon was on 26 April of 1785 so their ages would be a near perfect match and the one month difference would be insignificant at ten years of age, when Louis died and the speculation began. However, in 1999 a preserved heart was recovered that was believed to be that of Louis. DNA testing in the early 2000's conclusively proved it to be that of Louis XVII the Dauphin and thus all claims of his surviving are disproved. Louis XVII died on 8 June 1795 as history had recorded.
