Bowie Stops Phony Frenchman
ccthemovieman-118 April 2007
I hadn't watched this show in so many years, and it was only TV only for a two-year run, so it was like watching a brand-new show for me. When it was over, I wasn't quite sure what I thought of it.

Jim and his brother Rezin are getting their good family name dragged through the mud from area people who are getting swindled from the Bowie Land Company. Apparently some Frenchman says he has a prior claim and is the taking the land back from settlers that had bought it from the Bowies.

This story begins when Jim is riding along minding is own business, when a bullet knocks the hat off his head. Jim then bushwhacks the bushwhackers (one of them a very young Claude Akins) and hears from those guys that his "money-hungry, land-grubbing brother" was killed. Jim races a long way home and finds his brother was wounded, not killed, and then hears the story about the land-property problems. A counterfeiting problems adds to all the business woes.

After watching this one episode, I couldn't quite tell if Scott Forbes was a good actor or not. Most of the time he was fine, but every now and then he sounded kind of strange. The lady who played the Frenchman's wife did a poor job with the accent. She sounded Russian at times, British at times. I don't think she ever got the French accent down for more than a sentence or two in a row.

Overall, this was okay but not enough to inspire me to look for more episodes, although I would definitely another one to get a better opinion. I did appreciate the touches of humor that were in here. Forbes is a likable guy as the hero, "Jim Bowie."
