When Superman returns to earth after diverting the asteroid, he lands and is disoriented. He doesn't know who he is. A car is coming and he runs behind a large boulder. He then appears a moment later as Clark Kent, clothing changed. Even though he has no idea who he is, he changes his identity and mysteriously has all of Clark Kent's clothing including hat waiting for him behind the boulder.
No explanation was given how Superman was able to fly into outer space, where there is no oxygen, and survive.
Because Superman was originally from the planet Krypton and if, in fact, he has an apparent ability to breath without oxygen, his parents and others from Krypton could've survived the planet's explosion by flying to the planet Earth. However, the comics established that Superman could live for extended periods without air in the vacuum of space. But on Krypton, the natives had no super powers and could not have survived the planet's destruction.

When Superman strikes the asteroid the first time, it disappears in an animated explosion. But the rest of the story line makes it clear that the asteroid was not destroyed, only knocked into orbit around the Earth.
In Season 1 "The Stolen Costume", Kent's hidden closet is opened by pressing a button in the frame of adjacent doorway.
In this episode, the closet opens by tugging a coat hook.

Jimmy says that the asteroid zoomed past Venus and Mars on its way towards Earth, something that would require it to make vast, erratic changes in its flight path.
When Jimmy opens the door to let Perry White and Lois Lane into Clark Kent's apartment, the door opens outward. They are never built that way.
When Superman lands on the asteroid with the bomb, birds can be heard twittering in the background.
The string holding up the asteroid is easily visible.
After destroying the asteroid, Superman returns to Earth, which is seen in a long shot. A piece of cloth is resting under the globe used to represent the planet, and it is pulled away during the shot.
When Superman first flies to the asteroid, the camera shows him from behind and the wires holding the actor up can be seen to the left of his body in what is a bad matte.
Superman is given the "atomic bomb" by the professor outside of the observatory. Suddenly darkness falls. We see that the asteroid was responsible. As it is shown and each time it is shown after, the rope that is holding the prop up is clearly visible at the top of the asteroid.
Several close-up shots of the glowing asteroid that threatens Metropolis clearly show a black thread or string from which the "asteroid" is suspended.
As the amnesiac Clark lies in his bed, Jimmy, Lois and Perry visit him. He isn't wearing his Clark Kent glasses, but though each of them has met Superman many times, no one recognizes him with his glasses off.
Superman is given rather simple instructions for arming and detonating the bomb. One button, one switch. When he arrives on the asteroid, though, he flips several switches and certainly does not follow Professor Roberts' instructions. Oh well, it all worked out okay.
Early on when the professor needs to talk to Superman at the observatory, he calls out to him several times before Superman replies, "Here I am professor".
This completely belies Superman's super hearing ability. But it must be remembered that the professor is an ordinary human being and would call out to Superman just as he would to anyone else. Superman still hears the professor just fine.
