Bee--the Idiot
Hitchcoc3 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I've always disliked when Aunt Bee was a major character in an episode. Here, she gets into a sure thing. Obviously, this little enterprise, bought into for 400 dollars, would easily get her original investment back in no time. But she looks at a fortune cookie fortune and decides to go into hysterics. She is so weak and cautious. The reason she is a slave to Andy and his son. Just an opinion.

TAGS Goes Oriental

We're believe Aunt Bee is the quintessential southern matriarch not the least of which is her way around the kitchen. When The Tavern spare ribs restaurant closes another door opens. After visiting the restaurant during closing Aunt Bee chums up to the oriental cook and proposes he keeps the restaurant going using his expertise in Chinese fare. Upon her exit she finds a "lucky penny" which she sees as a sign she is to be the backing partner of the new venture. Nothing in this episode is too catchy. It's pretty much benign, just short of boring. What is nice is the two Asian actors. They have great screen presence and when they try to dissuade Aunt Bee's fears based on silly folklore, something funny happens. They convince themselves to buy Aunt Bee out, perhaps due to a fortune cookie of their own. I'd say, superstition aside, it's a good business idea as there's no direct competition and who doesn't love Chinese food? This episode is another outlier. It doesn't fit particularly, but it has some moments.

Aunt Bee Episodes Are Sonically Painful
smiler272923 June 2022
The episode is alright but Aunt Bee's high-pitched shrill voice is littered throughout as she spends the entire time worrying and whining which made my ears bleed and I couldn't wait for it to end...

Skip this one.

Aunt Bea is not business saavy.

Aunt Bea is so exasperating. She doesn't listen to reasoning and always thinks she's right. She's such a worrywart.

Aunt Bee turns to jelly.

Starts out fun. Nice to see "number one son" Keye Luke. Charlie Chan series paid homage using Charlie & Jack names. Nephew Jack (Lloyd Kino) 47 years old playing a college student. Liked Keye Luke's southern twang saying "North Carolina". Some good humor with townspeople trying Chinese cuisine. Then for some reason the wiiters make Bee (Frances Bavier) a blithering idiot. Pretty much tanked the episode killing all the comic flow. Keye Luke & Lloyd Kino were the highlights of the episode.

Annoying Bee
mcgx619 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Love The Andy Griffith Show. EXCEPT Aunt Bee is as annoying as nails on a chalk board! She is always a joy killer. Always has a negative response to just about everything. This episode is the most extreme. She has the opportunity to be owner of a popular and prosperous restaurant, and what does she do? Have a nervous breakdown over a fortune cookie!!! Its no wonder almost no one on the show liked the actress!!! Sometimes I wonder why she was even kept around! Andy should have married a long time ago and sent her back to her sister, or cousin or whomever pawned her off on poor Andy and Opie! They deserved better!
