The Inescapable Fun Girls
cshorton9522 February 2020
'The Andy Griffith Show' is a family favorite. We love its simplicity, wholesomeness, the good values it frequently displays, and engaging stories. The actors, especially Andy Griffith and Don Knotts, are superb and still remain iconic characters in American television. Have always found joy in watching 'The Andy Griffith Show,' with its unique stories and vast range of colorful characters it has to offer.

'The Arrest of the Fun Girls,' though good and very entertaining, lacks the originality and charm that a lot of the other episodes contain. It seemed like something was missing from the episode; it did not have the heart or soul that is present in most of the series. The Fun Girls are wacky and fun to watch, but they did not offer anything interesting or new to the table. Also, I personally believed that Thelma Lou and Helen Crump could have been more understanding toward Barney and Andy throughout the episode.

Aside from all that, the episode never failed to make me laugh, and it was funny to see how Andy and Barney handled the Fun Girls when they got in their way. The acting and cinematography are wonderful as always, and the episode itself has a lot of mishaps that amuse.

In conclusion, not among the best episodes of 'The Andy Griffith Show' but still entertains.

Just Shut Up Bernie

To follow up on a previous review, the Fun Girls only appear in 3 stories and Thelma Lou and Helen are only involved in 2 of those 3. The first time Andy was dating Peggy, not Helen.

It's the fun girls ... now what do we do

Warning: Spoilers
One of the funniest episodes. Both the Sheriff and Deputy Fife enter into an alternate universe when the fun girls arrive. Instead of telling them they have girlfriends and they're not interested they choose to behave foolishly and let these chaotic ladies manipulate them. The fun girls are from Mt Pilot and speed through Mayberry with the intent of being pulled over. Once stopped the girls go ga ga over the lads as every Mayberry citizen stops to check out the interaction. Later that day Thelma Lou and Helen stop by the office and see the guys and fun girls in a hard to explain embrace.

I'm guessing Thelma Lou and Helen may take daily doses of jealously pills because they are immediately taken aback by what they see. The following morning we see conversations between Thelma Lou and Barnie and Helen and Andy. Both conversations go ok. In time they calm down and life moves on. In the final scene we hear the screeching of tires and what sounds like the return of the goofy ladies. The boys choose to ignore them. A very wise choice. And based on the storyline the fun girls only appear in one or two episodes. I applaud the writers for creating these two wacky ladies.

"Fun Grls" are great. But a copied script.
vitoscotti26 June 2022
I give it a 10* rating because it's the "Fun Girls". Almost un-American to rate them lower. But, come on. Such talented funny actors deserve a fresh script. TAGS will do more funny redos, but with some different actors. This is with the same actors. Really a shame the writers were lazy.

The talented ensemble cast made the best of the redo. There were only a few minor funny twists. Always wonderful to watch anything with Joyce Jameson and Jean Carson though.

Annoying Jealousy
parkave-2353426 January 2021
I can see why Helen and Thelma Lou are mad, but I find Helen's anger and jealousy to be very annoying. We see this in other episodes, and it appears that her anger is her specialty. It always annoys me. 👎

The Joke Has Run Its Course

Those two women from Mt. Pilot are pretty funny, but this is now the fourth time we've seen them. Every episode is the same. They end up with Andy and Barney and Thelma Lou and Helen jump to conclusions (rightfully so, I guess). It's just that there is nothing new. They are brash and the boys just can't handle them. I hope they don't show up again (that goes for the Darlings as well).

Fun Girls getting boring
gary-646593 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
While I appreciate the talents of Jean Carson and Joyce Jameson, and the foursome works with Andy & Barney (sorry, Bernie), like some other reviewers I feel the episode -- that I watched part of last night -- was lacking somehow. The Fun Girls' first meeting with Andy & Barney was fun, but I think this second script went way beyond belief. The two lawmen see a car speeding dangerously through town, which Andy clocks at either "going 50" or "going 60". When they catch up to them and realise it's the enemies of their relationships they not only don't arrest them but end up chivalrously hosting them in front of Helen and Thelma Lou -- twice. I kept thinking about Khrushev's crack about American women being the boss of their men, or even men they barely know.
