carnival time
blanche-212 November 2011
It's time for the wild moving carnival that goes from street to street in London, and someone is threatening the organizers with death and mayhem in "Anna Lee: Diversion," another entry into the short-lived series starring Imogen Stubbs. Brierly, the detective agency for which Anna works, is asked to look into the threats, though the organizers believe the threats are coming from a man who wants to exploit the carnival and make it a big money proposition. Eventually the investigation focuses on, of all people, Beryl the secretary (Sonia Graham) and her brother (Tenniel Evans), who has a small cafe in the heart of the carnival district.

Here we meet Anna Lee's sister (Sally Baxter) and Anna's adorable nephew Matthew (Jack Shute) who loves his aunt's adventurous life. Anna's neighbor Selwyn (Brian Glover) is on hand as the one who will drive the carnival around on a lorry, if he can get back to using one.

This is an exciting and fun show. I still can't understand why, with the beautiful, vivacious Stubbs and such a good and likable cast, "Anna Lee" didn't have additional seasons.
