Excellent outing for Steed and Mrs Peel, on classic territory, with incorruptible noblemen, the backbone of England, attacked at their only weak point - their childhood love for their nanny. As usual the trail leads to a school (for superior nannies) and an exclusive shop (a toyshop for royalty). A psychotropic baby bouncer sets the ball rolling, as it were, and Britain's defence secrets are at risk. There is a missed opportunity for Mrs Peel to either scold or mother the Great and the Good of the defence establishment - she is underused in this episode. But the Avengers' mild kinkiness melds brilliantly with the mild kinkiness of the childcare arrangements of England's upper class, with splendidly ludicrous results.
Final thoughts: the closing 'crystal ball' scene is hilarious; Penelope Keith is mysteriously credited though absent; there is no obvious reason why only baby bouncers can be used by the villains; isn't it lucky that all the members of the defence committee had the same nanny?
