  The Mad Hatter : You make it sound so... common. Actually, Batman, you'll be happy to know you're witnessing my retirement from crime. You see, after my recent release from Arkham, I vowed to leave Gotham and my wicked ways behind me. Perhaps, buy a little island somewhere and open a sunbonnet shop. Oh, but islands, even little ones... cost money.

  [sobs] 

  The Mad Hatter : Lots of money... and then, I heard of Ms. Vreeland's well publicized trek into the rain forest. Yes, I realized at once she'd be the perfect unwitting partner in my scheme.

• Dr. Jervis Tetch : As the great Lewis Carrol himself once said, 'One, two, one, two, through and through. And then the rope went snicker-snack. He left it dead and with its head, he went galumping back!'

• The Mad Hatter : Oh, frabjous day! Calooh! Callay! He chortled in his joy. It's sheer brilliance! A wonderland of treasures, all willingly donated by Gotham's simpering elite. Ah, and now come the famous Vreeland jewels to dance at my heels.

  [seeing his henchmen empty-handed] 

  The Mad Hatter : What? How dare you return empty-handed!

  Hatter Hentchman : Forgive us, sir, but Batman showed up, and...

  The Mad Hatter : Batman? You insufferable fools! You can't even handle one man dressed up like a flying mouse?

  [throwing his top hat on the ground and stomping on it] 

  The Mad Hatter : Oh, and what's this? What's this? You've graciously left part of your cloak behind as Batman's invitation to waltz right into our midst! Bah!

  [picking his hat up and straightening it] 

  The Mad Hatter : And that's just what he'll do, won't he? Of course he will. And far be it from me to disappoint him when he arrives.

• The Mad Hatter : How's Batman like a donut shop? They're both filled with holes.

• The Mad Hatter : I can't take all the credit. I provided the microcircuitry, of course, but my good friend here supplied the dolls. Can you believe it? He was just an honest native craftsman until I changed his mind about helping me. Those others are riffraff culled out of various Gotham street gangs, gutter trash of no great importance. So, as this is my farewell to crime, I think I'll take a souvenir to mark the occasion.

  [as he moves to remove Batman's cowl, Batman kicks him away] 

  The Mad Hatter : No matter. I have a better way to remove that nasty old cowl.

  [he raises the blade of a guillotine] 

  Batman : Stop! You don't know what you're doing!
