The sixth and final season of The Bob Newhart Show was the worst of the series, but the series finale was particularly bad. The writing was uninspired and the cast seemed to be weary. When they were singing "Oklahoma," Howard (Bill Daily) proclaimed that he did not know the words to "South Pacific." That is supposed to be funny? If so, it seems a rather pathetic attempt. During the last season, Bob Newhart literally phoned in his scenes on at least three episodes, so he appeared to have lost interest in the show, as well. A sad end to television show that started off fairly well.
