- TriviaThis was the first episode produced, but the 9th to be broadcast. The show was substantially reworked after this episode -the most obvious points of discontinuity are; (1) the decor and furnishings of Dr. Hartley's office and home are not those used in other 1st season episodes, (2) Jerry was adopted immediately with no mention of having been in an orphanage, (3) Arthur Hoover never makes another appearance, and his wife, (4) Margaret Hoover, who's in advanced pregnancy, in this episode, is not pregnant in any of the other 6 episodes she appears in, and as for children and the Hartley's (5) the whole theme, of Bob and Emily wanting children is dropped - the Hartley's are very happy to be wihout children of their own (6) Emily's character was made more independent, with a stronger voice of her own (7) Bob having anything to do with the building's governing board (he's head of the condominium, here) is dropped. (8) The show switched from focusing on Bob and Emily, interacting with other tenants of the building, and instead focused more on the Hartley's and their small group of co-workers, friends, and Bob's patients.
- GoofsWhen Jerry is getting a cup of coffee, the position of his hand holding the cup changes between shots.
- Alternate versionsThe original version was never aired, and features a number of differences from the final, aired episode: 1. In the unaired version, Jerry was a psychologist and shared an office with Bob, as in the final version Jerry was a orthodontist. George Wyner played the orthodontist role in the original version, with his scenes deleted from the final version. 2. The unaired version does not have Carol or Mr. Carlin, and Bob's outer office is an entirely different office. Scenes with Carol and Carlin were shot and added for the final aired version. 3. The opening title sequence is longer and similar from the regular sequence seen in the first two seasons of the show. 4. The party scene at the Hoover's is slightly longer. The original pilot has ever been aired, nor has it ever been available in syndication, and was made available for the first time in the 2014 complete series box set.

Too Strained
While it had a few funny moments, this one didn't click with me. Bob's sudden announcement that they are going to get a baby was pretty much out of the blue. There is this house party on the first floor and it is a tiresome Seventies sort of thing. If I lived in that building I would consider it purgatory to associate with those folks. Anyway, it's the old we really ought to have children because everyone else seems to have one reasoning. It is speculated that this was actually a pilot episode and it seemed just that dusty. I have to say that I have been really hesitant about this first season. I saw all these shows in their first incarnation, and they are, so far, quite forgettable. I know it gets better eventually.
