The money, but not the polish
Keenan Wynn is Checkmate's client in this episode, a nouveau riche millionaire from the east now moved to San Francisco and living in the rich part of town. He may have the money, but not the polish. Wynn made his money in the construction and elegant manners and breeding don't go with hard hats. He's having a hard time crashing society, but there's person out there who wants to kill him. Wynn maybe rough around more than the edges, but that's not a reason to kill him.
The method chosen for execution makes it obvious from the beginning who the culprit is so I dare not mention the exotic method of execution chosen or all would be revealed. But Keenan Wynn gives a magnificent performance as the crass millionaire in the Born Yesterday tradition.
