- Cheers is in competition with Gary's Olde Towne Tavern once again, this time it's the annual Bloody Mary contest open to all bars in the Greater Boston area. Cheers won the competition the first two years, but Gary's, ever since it opened, has won the last four. Rebecca has at least managed to get the organizers to hold the contest at Cheers this year. Sam in particular is in Bloody Mary mode, even getting Norm to stop drinking beer and start sampling Bloody Mary's. Sam believes his secret ingredient - if he can get a hold of it - will win them the contest. Regardless, Rebecca plans on stealing some of Gary's Bloody Mary mix to have it analyzed, which they all agree - more publicly than they imagined - is the best Bloody Mary they've ever tasted. Knowing that they can't beat Gary by the quality of the Bloody Mary, the Cheers group decide other methods are in order to win. Collectively and individually, they hatch plans for Gary not to win. Will any of these plans work or will they stumble all over themselves in the process? A consequence of the scheming could be the end of a friendship between one of the Cheers regulars and everyone else at the bar.—Huggo
- The annual Bloody Mary contest is coming up, and Sam and the Cheers gang are doing everything they can to figure out how to beat Gary's Old Towne Tavern, who have won the contest for the last 4 years. Carla manages to bring Sam some 'black cardamom' which may be the secret ingredient in Gary's bloody mary mix, and Rebecca manages to steal some bloody mary mix directly from Gary's. However, Woody ends up making a mess of their plans when he accidentally sneezes on the black cardomam, and accidentally breaks the remains of the mix after some of the Cheers group have sampled some, proclaiming it to really be good.
Gary stops by to egg on the Cheers gang, but they find themselves even more upset when they find that Gary had a hidden camera in the bar earlier, and recorded their positive musings about his bloody mary mix, before posting them on TV. The gang wishes to get back at Gary, and Woody volunteers to disguise himself and find out more about the mix.
However, he ends up being found out, and delivered back to Cheers bound and gagged. Having been untied, Woody is upset when it seems that noone appreciates his attempts to help, and walks out of the bar claiming to quit.
Woody then goes over to Gary's and applies for a position there. Gary is at first apprehensive, but after hearing one of his spies say that Woody did indeed walk out on the Cheers gang, Gary feels he can trust Woody.
A week later, and Gary is ready for the bloody mary contest. However, Woody gives Gary a note that he claims he forgot to do a few days before...that explains the contest is moved up from 2pm to 12pm. Gary then realizes that Woody was a turncoat for Sam, and Woody hightails it out of the bar before Gary and his co-workers can catch him.
Gary and his boys then quickly reach Cheers where the contest is being held, and quickly turn their entry into the judge. The judge declares them the winners, and Gary and his boys leave. Everyone assumes the worst, until it is revealed that the judge is actually Woody in disguise, with the real contest still to take effect. However, as Woody is removing his makeup, Gary reappears, claiming he caught on that it was Woody in disguise, and the gang has no choice but to watch as the judge appears, and after sampling the different choices, declares Gary the winner.
Gary then leaves triumphant with everyone in dour spirits, except for Carla. She then reveals that the judge is actually her neighbor, and the real judge is an old woman who will be at the bar in the next 30 minutes. Norm also commends Carla for paying off her neighbor to help, but Carla explains there's a silver lining there too: the money she paid her neighbor was taken from Gary's wallet, which she swiped.
The gang is prepared to win, when Gary comes back into the bar. The gang thinks the gig is up, when Gary claims that someone took his wallet. The gang give it back, and after Gary leaves, resume their planned intentions to win this year's contest!
