- Rebecca has the opportunity for some free cosmetic surgery. There is much discussion among the gang what she should do if anything. What she finally decides upon gets Sam thinking about it. Meanwhile, Maggie O'Keefe, Cliff's one time postal girlfriend in Canada, has left a message for Cliff, stating that she is stopping by Boston and needs to see him. Upon seeing each other, Cliff isn't disappointed as Maggie wants to "be his girl". However, he immediately becomes afflicted with what he calls hysterical blindness. This condition happened to him only one other time, that when he almost got into a romantic relationship in high school. Then, as soon as he and Wendy Beeman started going steady, he lost sight only when she was around. His sight became normalized after they broke up. Frasier easily deduces that this affliction is a psychosomatic reaction to commitment, for which he can't prescribe a quick fix. Cliff is hoping that someone, namely Sam, can at least help him with his first night together with Maggie. During Cliff's encounter with Maggie, he may come to some physical realizations about whether he and Maggie are meant to be together at this point in his life.—Huggo
- Rebecca comes into the bar in good spirits, after being in a minor fender-bender. It turns out her good mood is because of a deal the other drive struck with her. The other driver is a plastic surgeon, and in exchange for not reporting the accident to her insurance company, he has offered to provide her a free cosmetic surgery procedure of her choice.
Needless to say, almost everyone has a comment on what Rebecca should go under the knife for, but she finally makes the decision to have a mole removed.
Meanwhile, Cliff has received a message from Margaret O'Keefe, a former postal employee he trained, and who had a romantic attraction to him. She is coming back to Boston, and Cliff seems excited that she wants to see him again.
When Margaret arrives at the bar, she tells Cliff that she wants to be married to him. Cliff is eager to tie the knot with Margaret...until he comes down with a case of 'hysterical blindness.'
Making up an excuse, Cliff gets Margaret to leave the bar and come by his apartment later on that evening. Once she leaves, his condition improves. However, he still has to deal with Margaret stopping by later on.
Cliff gets Sam to come by to help him prepare, just in case the 'hysterical blindness' happens, with Sam to leave if Margaret wants to spend some 'time' with Cliff.
Sure enough, once Margaret arrives, the condition returns, and Sam attempts to help. Eventually, Sam leaves per Cliff's keywords ("Goodnight, Sammy!"), but Cliff gets turned-around, and ends up diving off the balcony of his apartment into the swimming pool down below.
Cliff quickly rushes off to Cheers, where he cleans up. Meanwhile, Margaret is close behind, and when she inquires to Sam what is going on, Sam explains about Cliff's condition.
When Cliff emerges, Margaret tells him what Sam has said, and that she may have brought on this condition by her rushing him into marriage. When she mentions that she is willing to wait until Cliff is ready to make a commitment, Cliff's condition disappears!
Feeling that everything is wrapped up, Cliff feels he is ready to commit. Margaret rushes back to her hotel to get her things, and move in with Cliff.
Cliff sits down at a table and smiles at his good fortune...when he suddenly slumps forward. Apparently, he's gained a new condition, that is paralyzing him from the waist up.
