Colossus, a story about the American dream.
searchanddestroy-126 January 2016
It takes place during the great depression, in the old West. Two pals in their thirties - Shatner and Brown - who are nearly penniless except an old barn, are invited by their wealthy neighbour, in his ranch, among his vast estate, so vast that they finally find the huge mansion at night. I guess COLOSSUS title was inspired by Georges Stevens' GIANT. It takes place in Texas too, speaking of immigrants dreaming of the American dream, among endless acres everywhere the sight may reach. The neighbour is a nasty and arrogant character who proposes to humiliate the two pals on the irrigation and cattle matters because he is a wealthy man, a billionaire SOB. This story could easily have been made for the big screen or for a soap opera TV show in the line of DALLAS. In short, the typical American story topic, where the message is to work hard and harder to realize one's dream. Look out for Lee Van Cleef as one of the baron's henchmen, a heavy character, as you can guess. And also don't miss the long, long fist fight at the end, between Shatner and the boss rancher, a fight maybe longer than the one in Andy McLaglen's MCLINTOCK.
