Wholesome 50's entertainment, thought lost.
Sleepin_Dragon17 April 2024
Dixon hears of possible trouble, in the form of Duffy, not a bad man at heart, but one know for keeping bad company.

First off, thanks to whoever it was, that returned this to The BBC archives, it just goes to show, you should never give up hope, perhaps missing episodes of Dr Who, The Avengers and various other shows are still waiting to be found.

Maybe not a classic, but wonderful to get to see it, a very cosy little mystery, we may delve into the squalor of the criminal classes, but it isn't long before we're returned to the comfort, safety and warmth of the wholesome Dixon family home.

Duffy is certainly cultured, but Charlie is definitely an 'orrible villain.

A couple of fluffed lines, a reminder that they didn't have the option of multiple takes.

Duffy remarks 'don't smoke, don't drink, don't associate with loose women, wash behind the ears and use a broom twice a day,' perfect advice, I only wish I'd been given such advice in my younger years.

7/10.

Duffy Calls the Tune
Prismark1030 March 2024
Dixon of Dock Green goes back in time. Duffy Calls the Tune is a lost episode that only recently showed up at the BBC archives.

It had led to a rapid transmission. So we are back to stories written by Ted Willis. Shows that were recorded live going by some of the fluffs.

PC Dixon talks about old lags like the classical music loving Duffy Clayton or his friend Charlie Thomson who has just been released from prison. The latter is a habitual burglar but not the type who uses violence even though he has muscles like Tarzan.

However Charlie is in trouble. He stole from a gangster called McDonald. He is one of those roughhouse types. He has figured out that Charlie has stolen from him because of his modus operandi.

Now PC Dixon needs to sove him before McDonald's animals cut Charlie up.

A simple story balanced with some cosy homeliness. Another police officer is seeing a girl and wants to get engaged.
