In reality a doctor would never give someone intoxicated on alcohol lorazepam (Ativan). Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine sedative used to treat anxiety, insomnia and seizures among other things. Lorazepam and other benzodiazepines like alprazolam (Xanax), clonazepam (Klonopin), diazepam (Valium), flunitrazepam (Rohypnol) and midazolam (Versed) are a CNS depressant and have similar effects on the brain as alcohol, as such if administered to someone who is drunk the effects of benzodiazepines are greatly increased and can cause severe respiratory depression, coma and death.
