Neela and near-neurosis
christian9426 April 2010
ER veteran, Christopher Chulack, handles this eleventh season episode with the freshness of lovers' eyes. From a good script rises great performances and on the ball directing. Between letters read, thoughts shared and actions taken, the long-distance relation between Neela and Michael (which had been ignored for most of the season) takes a poetic and palpable form in the few exchanges that we are privy to.

The exquisite editing (including sound) is pivotal to this layered juxtaposition and we are in for an expedition (emotional and all) that will lead to the resolution in the following enjoyable episode. It is however the build-up in this one that arouses, allows, aspires and inspires. From two characters in search of themselves emerges a chemistry and empathy that reaches beyond them. It extends to the other characters and undoubtedly to the viewers.

Here and There (#11.16)

Warning: Spoilers
In this episode we get to see more about Gallant who is in Iraq but keeps in touch with Neela. They did it by having them read each other's letters, he even called and also show some similarities in what they are doing. My main issue with that is that they never had a relationship. They had a little moment before he went to Iraq and I believe a kiss, but I have trouble caring for a relationship developing that has never even really started.

Neela is indeed kind of an annoying person with no life. Funny that she has an issue with Ray letting somebody sleep on their couch after having occupied Abby's for months.

Way melodramatic, Neela episode

Warning: Spoilers
About this point in the network run of the show, I began to feel Neela was the whiniest, most melodramatic character in the show. This episode confirmed that opinion. That said, I liked the style of this episode. Told from two points of view simultaneously.

Neela was "in a weird place"

Warning: Spoilers
Neela was "in a weird place," she said.

As someone wrote below: "I began to feel Neela was the whiniest, most melodramatic character in the show."

Gallant actually showed some initiative and resolve.

The penpal issue seemed artificial and unnecessary.
