This is a complex and painful episode. If you look at it from when it aired in 2002 and then again in 2022, the transexual child storyline is painful. The painful part is that we haven't come far enough. This episode was ahead of its time. Very good and thought-provoking episode.

Sometimes ER really shows its age. From the "cure autism now" posters to the shock at a transgender individual, I wouldn't be surprised if this show ends up as a teaching tool in cultural studies. A lot changes in 20 years.

This particular episode is complex. Familial relationships are explored; everything from an abandoned newborn to a trans child to a woman abused by her son, and of course Abby and her mentally ill brother & mom. Issues which can't be solved in forty five minutes but what this ep does is shed light on societal issues which still affect us now. Just treated in a different way (one hopes...)

I don't really get it. Was Abby a popular character back in the days? I have trouble understanding how anyone could have liked her. She is an awful human. It was nice to see her brother to tell her off today, she really deserved it. The thing is, I doubt she would ever learn.

The story about the transsexual teenager who lost a father who accepted her and had to go back to the mother who looks at her as a freak was pretty good. I just don't understand why doctors referred to Morgan as "he", shouldn't they know better and be more sensitive? 2002 isn't that long ago that medical professionals wouldn't be informed. The only one who dealt with it right was Pratt. He knows better because of his own brother, and the story here I do not completely get.
