The doctors discuss a bunch of different alternative treatments for Corinna Nelson due to her extremely rare blood type. However they forget the most obvious treatment that is actually a first-line treatment for her condition: artificial blood, in fact in season four Elizabeth Corday conducted a study in the ER testing the effectiveness of artificial blood. One of the reasons artificial blood was developed was to help restore fluid volume for people with rare blood types, plus it prevents transfusion related issues like improperly typed blood and blood that is contaminated. It would not have been a full solution for Corinna as her hemoglobin levels were low, as of 2023 a reliable oxygen-carrying blood substitute has not yet been found, however the benefit artificial blood has is in expanding fluid volume, especially plasma, this would have allowed Corrina's body to focus on just producing new red blood cells and would have helped bring her hematocrit (Crit) level up.
