Funny but filled with clichés
pledgerock17 September 2020
I like this episode because there are some solid bits, mainly the raccoon gag is always funny. They just keep it going through the whole episode. Peter has Brian jump into the General Lee with him but has the window closed. Believe it or not, this throwaway gag comes back, I forget how many episodes later but Brian gets him back for that eventually. Seth McFarlane has a lot of stereotypes in Family Guy. We've seen it with The Goldmans and the Brits in the British pub episode, and now they're doing Dallas (or somewhere in the South.) Everyone has buck teeth and there's a lot of incest jokes and it just seems easy. Cheap shots. I feel like Seth is smarter than that.

Family Guy's best

Warning: Spoilers
This is probably my favorite episode of Family Guy. When Chris witnesses a robbery and fingers the crook, the Griffins are placed into the Witness Protection Program and moved to "the DEEP south." Lois spends most of the episode playing straight man to everyone else's jokes and sight gags, but the rest of the family is kept busy. Meg becomes popular for the first time in her life when her classmates (who get regularly outwitted in school by a pig) are fascinated by the fact she's lived in the city where people watch "movin' pitchers" and use deodorant. Chris makes a friend in local kid Sam, (whose father runs a revisionist Civil War reenactment group), but isn't all he appears to be. Stewie becomes obsessed with being a banjo player (he even sings the now-classic Family Guy song "My Fat Baby Loves to Eat" while pickin' an' graining'). Peter, who fulfills a dream of acting like one of The Dukes of Hazard and yet is STILL one of the smarter people in town, spends much of the first half being attacked by a raccoon before eventually becoming sheriff simply by agreeing to sit, eat pie and drink moonshine all day with borderline alcoholic Brian as his deputy. What makes this episode so funny is while it's easy to take potshots at southern "Salt of the Earth" types, these jokes don't fall into the usual clichéd traps. They find entirely new clichés to create on their own. One of my favorite parts is the tale of Sam's grandfather who drowns face down in a shallow lake after he jumps in to save himself when he thinks he's drowning after seeing his reflection in the water (Chris, fitting in more than he should want to, admits that's why Lois makes him take showers).

CLASSIC!

Oh, look -- another review complaining about stereotypes!

Well, not from me.

I've lived in the south my entire life and this episode has remained one of my favorites since it aired around Thanksgiving of 2001, a time when we were all needing a good laugh to settle our nerves.

This episode showcases the seminal racoon gag we all love, pokes plenty of fun at southern stereotypes and fancies itself a Dukes of Hazzard homage, too.

CLASSIC!

Dukes Of Hazzard is funny in this part in Family Guy

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is Hilarius. Whats Hilarius is that Alf is on a show called the E Hollywood True Story and the coconut cake that Peter cut then a woman with black lingerie came out of the cake then screamed then she fall down when she got cut. Thats funny when Peter is wearing a costume and Herbert the old weird voice grandpa. Whats hysterical is when Peter and Brian is officer Peter as T.J. Hooker and Mcmilon Wife. Thats terrible when that bad guy steals the money and Chris Griffen's bike. This story happens when there is a bad guy then he was in jail then he escaped so he destroys Chris's girl friend then destroys Chris. So just then the Griffens move to Bumblescum just then the house was dirty with TV that came out it was a raccoon in the house. Just then Chris see a new friend name Sam just then a little later Sam was a girl. Thats funny when Peter does Dukes car. This episode is Hilarius you will like that episode and even more parts that Hilarius.
