A Movie Star Hides Out In Bedrock
Jimmy_the_Gent43 November 2021
Movie star Rock Quarry is in town, he is tired of the crowds and wishes he could just be his old self, ordinary Gus Shultz.

One of my favorite episodes. Fred crashes into Rock's car and they make friends. Rock's voice is a parody of Gary Cooper, this episode aired in Oct 1961 and Cooper had died in May of that year. Funny scenes as Wilma and Betty recognize Rock but Fred convinces them this is just a guy named Gus Schultz. Funniest scene is when Rock tries to confess he really is movie star Rock Quarry. He does some of his roles like Dr Jekyll's Hide.

Rock Quarry or Gus Shultz?

I've always wondered if Rock Quarry was a reference to Rock Hudson. However, this character didn't look or sound like Rock Hudson. The Gus Shultz story is fun, but the most humorous aspect of the episode is Fred inadvertently hitting Gus's car. Barney says: "You went through the 'stop sign' and hit that man's car." Barney keeps talking about the incident, making Fred more angry. "Right through 'stop sign' Pow!" Very funny episode, despite the Rock Quarry character being kind of bland. Gary Granite shows up at the end. An obvious reference to Cary Grant, and a more engaging character. Maybe, Gary should have been the central character.
