Carlos, the illiterate
JordanThomasHall25 October 2018
A man named Pablo arrives at the convent in search of handyman work in exchange for being taught to read and write in English. He takes his place in class among the convent's children. Meanwhile Carlos has fallen in love with Theresa (Corinne Camacho), who he feels may finally be the one. Carlos brings donations and finds that Pablo looks like the famous bullfighter El Charro from Madrid. Ramon Esteban (Lloyd Battista), manager of El Charro, arrives at the casino after the bullfighter disappeared in the middle of the season and was traced to San Tanco. Carlos talks to Pablo to learn he is El Charro and came to the convent because his father was raised there and it is the only place he knows he will be safe while he learns English. Ramon won't allow it during the season and arrives with newspaperman Fernando Morales (Harvey Jason) after suspecting El Charro is there. Carlos pretends to be the handyman, leading to the newspaper gossip column writing "what local casino owner is learning to read and write at the Convent San Tanco?" The situation leads to comical situations with those close to Carlos. Carlos' love life is now in jeopardy.

At long last an episode that maximizes its comedic potential. A rare, well done offering from the series.
