Dr. Juan A. Rivero Zoo, located in Mayagüez, a city on the west coast of Puerto Rico, about 2 1/2 hours drive from San Juan, is the only zoo on the island. The zoo was originally opened in 1954 and it's named in honor of its first director. Amongst its conservation programs, they're committed on preserving the Andean condor.
A hawk's diet is predictable and includes a variety of birds and smaller animals (e.g.: mice, rabbits, birds, etc.) being a natural pest controller, especially for farmers. Nowadays, falconry (hunting by means of a trained bird of prey) is used to control pests in urban areas, landfills, commercial buildings, and airports.
The opening mention of invaders from outer space was a timely one. Quinn Martin's TV series The Invaders had premiered in 1967.
The 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble and the Summer Olympics in Mexico City had generated much public interest. References to all things olympian was seen in numerousTV program that year. Likewise, the 1972 Olympic debut of gymnast Olga Korbut would influence many productions going forward.
