This is one of Kelsey Grammer's favorite episodes. On "Cheers (1982)," Shelley Long didn't like the Frasier character and lobbied hard to get Grammer removed from the show. The producers disagreed, noting that the audience liked him. When Long's character of Diane Chambers appeared on this show, Grammer said the episode was an opportunity for he and Long to make peace with each other.
This marks Shelley Long's second guest appearance as Diane in the series. Out of the three appearances, this is the only one in which the 'real' Diane appears--the other appearances occurring in dream sequences.
This episode won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Editing for a Series - Multi-Camera Production.
Diane's (Shelley Long) facial tic was first seen in the first season of "Cheers (1982)" in the episode "Endless Slumper." They are often the result of extreme nervousness or stress. Having seen her beset before with uncontrollable facial tics, Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) realises that things are not quite as they seem with Diane.
In 2016, "Cheers (1982)" was turned into a stage play called "Cheers Live on Stage," a condensation of some of the seasons with episodes featuring Diane.
