At the beginning of the episode, Kimble is seen arriving in Stafford with a carry bag, and we see it several times at his sister's house. At the conclusion of the show, we see Kimble's brother driving him to the bus stop, and Kimble boards it empty-handed.
As initially broadcast, Richard Kimble returned to his hometown of "Stafford, Wisconsin". A fundamental plot point of the show is that Richard Kimble would face execution if recaptured -- but capital punishment in Wisconsin was abolished in 1853. For subsequent network rebroadcasts of the show, William Conrad redubbed the line to indicate Richard Kimble's hometown was "Stafford, Indiana". However, some syndicated prints of this episode still include Conrad's reference to "Stafford, Wisconsin".
