It's worth seeing for the acting.

"Winner By Decision" is a decent entry for "General Electric Theater". It has its problems but is well worth seeing because of the fine acting by the likes of Harry Belafonte, Ethel Waters and Diahann Carroll. As for the story, it's mostly good but the ending seemed a bit strange and there was that annoying drum....

Belafonte plays a young man who has the makings of a fine boxer--and his brother pushes him hard to do this. However, his mother (Waters) is completely against it--and begs him to reconsider. When he does go pro, in his first fight be beats the crap out of his opponent--and this is just too much for him.

The show is a nice indictment about the awfulness of boxing but the resolution at the ending came too quickly and was not convincing. Had he killed or permanently injured his opponent, then it would have made a lot more sense. Overall, a bit of a miss but fine acting do make it worth seeing.
