Gidge has to learn how to drive and FAST! She's got a cool job at a flower shop, run by Mr. Whiting (played by the ever popular John McGiver). The problem is he needs her to drive his delivery truck. Say it isn't so.
Driving Lesson #1 with her dad. Not good. Gidget backs out of the driveway and almost has an accident. But he gets the ticket!!
Driving lesson #2 with John. Insane! Gidget's brother-in-law (Peter Duel) thinks she's nuts. Gidget backs into a car with a dog, then tows the car and thinks the dog is driving behind her???
In the meantime --and very cleverly-- Gidget recruits old faithful Larue to drive the delivery truck around town and save her job, but the charade cannot continue!
There's MORE! What's next, Mr. Whiting's wife is about to have a baby and he leaves Gidget in charge of the shop? Professor Lawrence ends up driving, if you can believe it. You can believe it.
John McGiver is always fun to watch, at the time making several appearances on the PATTY DUKE SHOW. To note, there are several shots of Gidget driving around Burbank, which really hasn't changed much in 50 years! Most shots are done on Olive Avenue.
There is one goof. Gidget pulls out of the driveway with her dad, and they park next door to the FATHER KNOWS BEST house (on the Columbia Pictures/Burbank lot). He gets out of the car, and suddenly they're parked in front of the PARTRIDGE FAMILY house, which is actually down the street!
Sadly, this movie lot with so many memories was torn down in the summer of 2023 to make way for new soundstages at Warner Brothers.
But the film remains.
