Richards mother, Trix, passes away and Richard is in a deep stage of grief. Emily has to pick up the pieces and take charge of funeral arrangements with Lorelais help. Emily finds out that Trix wanted Richard to basically leave Emily at the alter and that's the straw that breaks the camels back. She ends up smoking, drinking, and not caring what happens to Trix's funeral arrangements. Lorelai takes over the planning. Marion Ross, who plays Trix, is playing a cousin in this episode and it's bonkers. Love it.
