It takes a sick mind to want to introduce a guy like Gomer Pyle to a female burlesque performer and tell him she's a "school teacher". Well, apparently Sgt. Hacker and his corporal have sick minds. They pitch the idea to the lady and she tells them immediately that she doesn't "dig" practical jokes. And then she says she'll do it on one condition: if they pay her "fifty bucks". Turns out the lady is a business woman. Good for her. Get some money out of these two creeps. They agree to it.
So they introduce her to Gomer and they tell him that she's a cousin and is visiting from Seattle. And that's she's a school teacher. Hacker says she needs an escort for the evening and Gomer agrees to do the job and takes her to a tearjerker movie about a dog. Then they go have an ice cream soda. It's clear that the burlesque queen is having a lousy time, but Gomer seems oblivious. He's happy as a clam.
Gradually Gomer begins to work his magic on her and she realizes that she lost the little girl in her a long time ago. I won't spoil the ending, but lets just say that things go a little differently than Hacker expected.
Fay Spain gives a good realistic performance in this episode. She doesn't clown it up and go for big laughs, she plays her character like a real person. And that's really the best part of the episode. BTW, there is no Sgt. Carter in this episode. There aren't as many laughs as normal in this episode, but there are some very nice moments between Gomer and Lila. I gave it a 7 because of that.
