- Mando is an outlaw in Mexico who seriously wounds Matt and leaves him to die in the desert. Hidalgo controls nearly all of the small town where Matt finds refuge, and nobody will stand up to him. Matt is determined to kill or capture Hidalgo for his crimes, but is so weak from his injuries he has to prop himself upright with the saddle horn of his horse.—Peter Harris
- Matt follows the Mexican outlaw Mando (Alfonso Arau) into a rugged area of Chihuahua, where he is bushwhacked by Mando and his gang. Left for dead, Matt is discovered by a young boy, Lucho, who persuades his grandfather Augustin to rescue the marshal. At first, pride prevents Augustin from accepting help from his daughter Lucero, a cantina hostess and Mando's woman, but eventually the old man relents, and with Lucero's help Matt recovers from his wounds. Although warned of the risks, Matt is determined to face down Mando and bring him to the U. S. as a prisoner.
