The Gypsies Did It
dougdoepke30 December 2010
Paladin is hired by a banker to deliver money to a beneficiary. On the way, Paladin encounters a dead man (the beneficiary) and a trigger-happy rowdy who wants to hang someone from nearby Gypsy camp who he thinks must be guilty. Now the man in black must sort things out before someone in the camp gets killed.

Okay episode. The set-up along the trail is a good hook, though to me the subsequent Gypsy camp reeks of Hollywood pretense. Nor, for that matter, is the knife fight very convincing—both guys hanging on to the bandanna like their teeth are glued after getting really knocked around. Entry is distinguished by its noteworthy cast—early Lee Van Cleef (head Gypsy), gorgeous Enid Jaynes (Gypsy dancer), and veteran stunt-man-cowboy Roy Barcroft (the rancher).

In passing—One risk the supremely masterful Paladin character ran was not becoming dislikably arrogant in his command of every situation. This may be the only episode of the several dozen I've seen where I'm afraid the character crosses that line. See what you think.
